AMERICA, the land of oppretunity, as long as you are not WHITE!

living in south florida is intresting, it seems like there are more spanish stations than american on the radio. im not racist at all, but lately ive noticed a nasty trend, i live in a trailor park, its a nice trailor park but still a trailor park, me and my wife are the ONLY white people on our street, i didnt grow up this way, but poor choices i made for myself in the past got me here, anyway enough about me. on my street, there are around 50 or so double-wide "manufactured" homes, most are brand new, i live in the oldest and one of the uglyest trailors in the park, i work 40 hours a week, i pay my taxes, and i dont mooch of the goverment. but most of my neighbors, if not ALL of my neighbors are mexican. they all have brand new doublewides, brand new cars, brand new nice everything. -and NONE of them work!! dont get me wrong, they are all drunks, but all very nice people, at least the ones that speak english, and i have very low crime in my neighborhood. but what the hell? why the heck do these people get free healthcare, all kinds of handouts, college funding, housing etc, etc. i myself have tried to take advantage of the system a few times, but im ALWAYS denied accsess to public help. i have a car in my name, and a 40 year old trailor thats falling apart, thats in my name. and also i have a family that has alot of money, these are usually what the goverment tells me when i apply for food stamps, homelink phones, etc.

WHY!!!??

Your position in life has nothing to do with your being white, nor does it have anything to do with the quality of your neighbors' trailers or cars. It has to do with you - really.

Listen to Finn, he's a fart smeller!!!

You need a mentor. Apparently your folks have money, ask them how you can better yourself. And don't be so confrontational.

You would be amazed at the people who will help you if you try to do something...provided you don't piss them off from the gitgo.

Lets see, don't knee-jerk this...

I don't live where you do nor am I privy to your situation or theirs. What I can tell you is that looks can be deceiving. For example, the unenlightened might have the notion to claim -- ridiculously -- such things about Native people. The best example I can offer, related to Natives, indicating that what you perceive is veneer is this:

Yes, it is true that some Natives have small, functional, simple brick homes built for them in community lots with other Natives. These homes are subsidized and housing costs are ridiculously inexpensive.

They, also, will never be owned by the occupant because they're not designed to build wealth, foster lineage landowners, formulate generational stability or act as anything beyond reasonably short-term living arrangements for a single generation to be exploited -- even if it's a housing payoff to remain docile -- in the best interests of "The Man." (Payments, at best, cover upkeep. When you die, another occupant moves in. Plus, its based on income so it hurts you to get a job or improve your lot in life...)

That's how it was planned.

To be honest, I doubt the picture in your trailer park is quite how you see it, I'm sure there's something else going on.

BlueStreak 02-01-2011 01:11 AM

Yeah, the poor, downtrodden white man, po', po', pitifull us, a honkey jus' caint catch a break no mo'..............................

Unbelieveable.

Dave

merrylander 02-01-2011 08:11 AM

I would put him on my ignore list but it is hardly worth the trouble as I doubt he will be here any longer than he was at AK.

JJIII 02-01-2011 10:14 AM

I really don't ubderstand why you guys let Rob get under your skin like you do. He is just another person sitting at a keyboard. If you think that his posts are so far out why bother to reply? Personally, I think we are watching a pretty good fisherman and some are swallowing hook, line, and sinker. Just my opinion.

plus one

A family of three in FL receives a maximum of $303 a month.
Just 1.3 percent of Florida households received welfare payments.

piece-itpete 02-01-2011 01:02 PM

It is true however that minorities - the 'right' ones - get preferencial treatment in many ways.

LOL, that would not even pay the rent on a studio apartment on a section 8 program here.

Carl

Would not even rent you a garage around here.

piece-itpete 02-01-2011 01:40 PM

Section 8 would be on top of welfare and food stamps. So, regardless of skin color, free house, free food, free health care including optical and full dental, and some pocket money. Teach your kids how to act stupid, add SSI on top.

You might, MIGHT, be able to find a 1 bedroom apartment in the wrong neighborhood in Cleveland for $300. Maybe. It'd be craptacular and dangerous.

Rob2.0, ever just try for food stamps?

Pete

I thought Section 8 was a separate program.

Seems like getting the sawbone's to put your kid on drugs kicks in SSI as well.

The last time I had the dubious honor of seeing Section 8 housing up close-----It was HORRID. I couldn't understand why in the hell anyone would want to live there, even if it is cheap, or even free. But, that was a long time ago. Maybe things have changed...........

Dave

Welfare for the slumlords, the best I remember.

Chas

piece-itpete 02-02-2011 08:26 AM

It depends. In Cleveland, where lots are practically free and there is big tax abatement, they build new houses, modern floor plan 1 car attached Colonials just to rent section 8.

All section 8 houses/units are 'supposed' to be inspected by the Feds to meet standards of cleanliness and condition. The house itself anyway. Of course bribing inspectors never happens, the inspectors being the angels they are. Landlords do like it, you get paid be the feds direct, and ALL damages are guarenteed, not just a deposits worth.

And sometimes, once in a while, a deserving poor person gets one.

Exactly. Welfare is not as it is painted at all.

Most all poor people are forced into dangerous neighborhoods, but they have all the opportunity of the Bushes.

Food stamps, are extremely hard to qualify for.

This is exactly the false imagery that rallies the Beck devotees.

The reality is that living on social programs is hell and inhumane in such a wealthy society.

piece-itpete 02-02-2011 08:46 AM

I'm familiar with this life. Many choose it. T'ain't false at all.

Here in Ohio, if you go and ask for food stamps they give them to you, at first at least, practically no questions asked, regardless of income, and afterwards they're a lot easier to get than welfare.

Pete

This is correct but to qualify you have to way way poor.

iT is very false to think people don't live miserably if they are on assistance.

piece-itpete 02-02-2011 09:32 AM

Agreed, that's why I work :), but many choose it.

And the way they manipulate their kids to get SSI is shameful.

Indeed, desperation makes people do desperate things.

BTW, choosing is relative.

BlueStreak 02-05-2011 12:32 PM

Here in the swamp, you used to be able to go into the section 8 neighborhoods and buy foodstamps for 50 cents on the dollar from crackheads. Now, they are issued with the recipients name and SS# stamped on them so that they must show a picture ID to use them. At first it didn't make much difference until the state cracked down on store owners/managers/employees who weren't checking. Once people started getting fined and/or going to jail....................

Now, it's not quite as bad.

Dave

Dondilion 04-04-2011 12:42 PM

The Mexicans in Brooklyn and Queens, NY, are the hardest working group. My persornal observation.

BlueStreak 02-02-2012 10:19 AM

I've met a lot of really nice people on AK. Which is why I have no idea what you're talking about.

piece-itpete 02-02-2012 12:04 PM

Attacking AK isn't the smartest move among AK members.

Which reminds me to mention the Fest, yet again. Near or far it's worth it!

Pete

Bigerik 02-02-2012 03:43 PM

Thanks for the reminder, Pete. I gotta book my room.

See, this is the advantage to living in Cleveland. What is it, Pete, 1.5-2 hours to Detroit?

Dave

piece-itpete 02-03-2012 09:53 AM

A little over 3 hours to the Fest site :D

Being from Cleveland and going to Detroit is like being at home lol. It's like Cleveland grew up.

Great post D.

Not quite so close coming from Toronto, but a pretty easy run anyway.

Don't care too much about the audio gear anymore, but lots of friends I wanna catch up with.
