The Resistance

Post your tips and links to resisting the Trump coup.

I have a feeling that the Turd Reich may have hit its high water mark in the past few days. Between Musk's dumb emails, firing air traffic controllers/bird flu researchers & park rangers, and sucking up to Putin while threatening Zelensky, Cheeto Benito is wearing out his welcome with the American people.

^^^ Nice sentiment, but I can't count the number of times I thought that ... in the FIRST term. I think there's still some slashing and burning to be done before things reach a tipping point.

Don't count on this to take care of itself.

I agree, but as a resident of the bluest of Blue States, it's not like I have to convince my Congressman (Jamie Raskin) to resist.

Hah! I was just going to suggest you call your Congressman. Call someone else's Congressman, I guess.

I actually ran into him and his wife on a hike a few months back and had a brief conversation. I really like the guy. In a perfect (non-Trump) world, he's a bit more liberal than I'd prefer, but he's exactly what's needed now.

AI, but funny as hell.

Jane Fonda is urging Hollywood to fight these fraught times with empathy.

"What we, actors, create is empathy. Our job is to understand another human being so profoundly that we can touch their souls," said Fonda, who was honored on Sunday night with SAG's life achievement award. "And make no mistake, empathy is not weak or woke. By the way, woke just means you give a damn about other people."

Thank you, Jane.

If only we could get those peckerwoods down in the 1st congressional district to rebuke tRump and turn on Andy Harris. Musk's cuts are going to hit them hard.

Yes. Great speech, watch the whole thing here:

It's amazing that someone like Andy Harris could get elected in Maryland.

That says more about the residents in his district than it does about him. Anyone with an "R" in front of their name and the "proper" complexion.

Trumps runs again........Humm
Why not Obama?

donquixote99 02-25-2025 10:04 PM

All the former Presidents would be great to have as symbolic leaders of the resistance. As for actual roles, I can see Obama being great running management and budget, he's well organized and good at running a professional team. Don't think I'd have a real job for any of the others.

Forget being "polite" to current presidents, our democracy is at stake dammit.

donquixote99 02-26-2025 05:24 PM

Polite wasn't a goal, just having guys either do something where they can do a good job, or stay out of the way and just do photo-ops.

electronjohn 03-01-2025 10:17 AM

Yesterday was "Buy Nothing" day...and I did just that. Didn't spend one nickel. I'm also a firm believer in boycotts. For example, for years I've refused to buy anything made by Georgia-Pacific. G-P is owned by Koch industries. Need i say more? That means no Brawny paper towels...no Vanity Fair napkins...no Dixie cups or plates. G-P is also big in construction materials...so bear that in mind when planning a project.

There's more boycotts in the works...so keep tabs and do what you can.

It's not as easy as it sounds, though.

I, along with millions of other Canadians, am currently observing a strict boycott of all things American and this often ends up with one going without some of one's favorite products when no suitable non-American replacement can be found.

Add to that the fact that any shopping trip is now doubled in duration due to the necessity for forensic label-reading of just about everything. I am, I suppose, "shocked but not surprised" at the number of things I used to buy without a second thought that are sourced, packaged in, or distributed from the USA.

Gotta tell you, it's a major PITA. But worth it!

'This Michigan Democrat cruised to victory in a Trump district. Here’s how.
Meet Kristen McDonald Rivet.' WP

"SAGINAW, Michigan — When Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Michigan) had breakfast recently with a dozen beet farmers from her state, she knew without having to ask that most of them had voted Republican.

Make sense of the latest news and debates with our daily newsletter
Though the agenda for this meeting was the federal sugar program, she turned the conversation to how Medicaid would be devastated under the GOP-passed House budget. More rural hospitals could go under in a state where many people already have to drive two hours to get to one, she told them. And she noted that close to half the births in Michigan are covered by Medicaid.

The farmers leaned forward in their chairs, she recalled, and “we spent the rest of that breakfast talking about the Medicaid cuts.”

Kristen McDonald Rivet is probably not a name you’ve heard, given that she has been a member of Congress for fewer than 12 weeks."

The midterms are looking brighter for the Democrats, people are fucking pissed on both sides after a couple months of these thieves and grifters that're in power.

Some honeymoon, eh?

ps I seriously doubt that these half assed, quarter stepping punks have the stones to invoke the Insurrection Act. F*ck them. This former Yippie has greased up my walker and ready to hit the streets. (grin)

Now you just have to get some of your elected representatives to strap on a set like the ones you're wearing, Bob.

Felon would be the one to invoke the insurrection act which would be the precursor to martial law if the protests kick off. The protests would then be declared illegal and those participating would be arrestable. A million plus souls on the streets of DC around the WH and the Capitol would make a great "I dare you" statement.
When and where and I'll be there.

Always remember: just as the rule of law only works when everyone believes in it and acts accordingly, the rule of the rich only works when everybody believes in it and acts accordingly. We have the power to walk away from the oligarchs, just by realizing the universe will let us. Which it will. There is no natural law that gives a billionaire power. We can ignore what they say as easily as they ignore what the law says. We just need to realize it. Whatever kind of world we believe in, we will have. Human authority is just software.

Coincidentally I watched the movie Canadian Bacon (1995) yesterday. I am not much into movies, so had not heard of it and with the ever annoying Alan Alda in it, I would have normally given it pass. But the story line, a fake US invasion of Canada intrigued me.

Oerets 03-31-2025 05:57 AM

Three months ago if someone had said the US would be acting this way towards Canada and Greenland.....

They would of been laughed at ignored and seen as just another crazy conspiracy nut!

The one in DC is a short MARC train ride from here for me. Less than $20 round trip and no parking hassles ;) I've seen it recommended that we bug the hell out of local news outlets because most national media outlets seem to not want to cover the anti-trump protests.

An old-fashioned filibuster!This is resistance!

Oerets 04-01-2025 05:47 AM

The Democrats have a couple of problems to overcome.

The biggest being the subconscious if not apparent, we told you what to expect if he got elected. Over and over, you chose not believing or even to listen.....now hating the messenger.
Second having it now appears not the political power to stop them. A minority power with zero in the way of effecting the current events.

RickeyM 04-01-2025 07:45 AM

That last part. That's what's got so many Democrats including me mad. Party leadership seems to be standing by the wayside watching this trainwreck happen. With the exception of the Honorable Senator Corey Booker's filibuster and a few others speaking up like Bernie Sanders and AOC are doing, what's the message? Attacking the damage Felon's doing while providing a better path forward ought to be the order of the day.
