Joe Manchin Says America Needs a Centrist Third Party -- Whaddaya Think?

I'm inclined to agree.

I agree completely in terms of my own political views, but there are huge structural impediments and the prevailing view that any third party will simply play the spoiler (something Manchin also mentioned).

I'm Australian so take with a pinch of salt.

Nah, just need to get rid of MAGA and the far right.

MAGA, or some variation thereon, is going on all over the world. How do you propose to get rid of it?

A female president will be elected before a true third party gets established because to get there, they will play the spoiler in the general elections. The two (and only) political parties will fight this every which way.

Oerets 12-23-2024 06:03 AM

To many ingrained institutions in the country for a third party to ever become a true force.

More likely the movement would just takeover one of the parties.

The Tea Party started out as a potential third party, became MAGA under Trump. Then took over the GOP.

Weed them out, starts by getting the dems back in after this round of trump and maga making a total mess of things for the coming 4 years.

The moderates in the GoP need to get real and grow a spine at the same time.

The same moderates that are afraid of trump & the Maggers? President-elect Musk has already fired a shot across their bow.

I believe the next 4 years will remind many Americans why the fired Trump the first time around.
It will motivate more to come out and vote him out again, like the first time around only this term will provide even more motivation...unfortunately.

Him in reference to the next election being GoP/MAGA, as he can only do this term, unless he manages to become the dictator he desires to be. I think MAGA will become less relevant as their agenda hurts Americans more this time.

It always seems to be easier to tear down, criticize, complain then to build up to solve requires more effort.

We must be force into making the hard choices that will need to be implemented.

If things stay on the track they are on, don't expect a free and fair election in '28.

Hard choices get a lot easier if you do the choosing and arrange for others to do the sacrificing.

Maga, Maga, blah, blah has masked the fact that it is the metropolitans against the rest.

The metropolitans against the rest will continue for a long time. And this not specific to the US. However in the US the
electoral system favors the rest.

The Dem's need to counter the characterization the 'pubs have cast them and prove they can chew gum and walk by addressing middle American kitchen table real life concerns, and supporting unrepresented minorities needing defending from bullies presenting them as vague threatening adversaries.

It's more the educated vs the rest, and the colored vs the rest. 'Metropolitan' just happens to map pretty well to the two together.
