Matt Gaetz Withdraws!

You'll have to supply your own dirty joke.

finnbow 11-21-2024 11:45 AM

One less rapist in Trump's cabinet. Time now to focus on Hegseth, Tulsi and RFK Jr., all of whom are as bad in their own ways.

Matt Gaetz pulls out!
Is this so the ethics report won't come out? No pun intended.

My gut feel tells me that Kevin McCarthy assured Monster Gaetz that he will leak the House Ethics report on him, guaranteed. Why else withdraw his nomination, everyone knows he is a sum bag, but documented evidence is something else, least of which may be potential lawsuits.

Trump will find another way to backdoor him, perhaps as his WH attorney.

Hegeth will be the next to withdraw I believe.

And, still another Trump nominee involved in a sex scandal...

I don't know if we're getting it here -- Trump regards sexual assault allegations as badges of honor, signs that his candidate has the "right stuff" and the testicular fortitude to go out there and take what he (or she!) wants.

finnbow 11-21-2024 06:09 PM

And now, Trump jumps in and nominates Pam Bondi for Attorney General. She's also scandal-ridden. To wit:

The Trump Foundation broke the law by giving an illegal $25,000 contribution to a political group supporting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Charitable foundations like the Trump Foundation are not allowed to engage in politics. Even more problematic was the fact that the contribution was given as Bondi’s office was deciding whether to take legal action related to Trump University.

His choice of candidates is a way to flip the middle finger at the Dems/Libs and in turn he scores points from his MAGA cult. Win or lose, he comes out ahead and this is what is important to him. Governance is not even in his vocabulary nor are governmental norms.

Right, and I don't know why the Dems/Libs are having such a hard time figuring this out. They respond with hand-wringing outrage at every norm he obliterates. Instead they need to break a few rules themselves in the name of getting shit done.

The next four years should offer plenty of opportunity for just that, because regardless of who ends up in which position, chances are the overarching theme will be Incompetence. Or Chaos. I can't decide.

Is it possible that Trump actually IS playing three-level chess and the whole Matt Gaetz thing was just a red herring intended to shock the system in order to ease the passage of his eventual (preferred) pick? After all, no matter how distasteful some members of the Senate may find Pam, she's no Matt Gaetz and she actually knows how to be an AG.

It's spooky to think he's capable of such strategy. Actually, if it was a strategy it was most likely concocted be Stephen Miller or even Bannon -- it sort of sounds like Bannon's convoluted and contrarian brand of evil genius.

finnbow 12-23-2024 08:38 AM

Meanwhile, the Gaetz ethics report is out:

“Trump's nominee to be attorney general was found by congressional ethics investigators to have paid numerous women — including a 17yo girl — for sex, purchased and used illegal drugs, including from his Capitol Hill office…”

It seems Trump has studied Bill Clinton.

I suspect Bill was the reason Trump believed he could
be successful in the politics thing.

Average GDP growth is a reasonable marker but is insuffient to indicate what is really ailing a country.
Note how close Bill Clinton and Reagan numbers are. Yet these are the two guys who hollowed out an important sector of the nation.

Like it or not, a prominent feature (if not the prominent feature) of capitalism is "creative destruction."
