Upper Balljoint Surgery Aka Shoulder Replacement?

Yep. Thursday, bright and early they're going to saw off the top of my humerous and install a prosthetic ball and socket joint lagscrewed into my scapula. Outpatient, smh.

Ought to be interesting...

Apologizing in advance for any 'crankiness'. :D
So play nice you assholes and don't burn down the joint. ;)

Don't let your kids grow up to be roofers, riggers or trapeze artistes...

Oerets 08-20-2024 03:04 PM

Wow!

Six months from now it will be all a memory of what was.

Wife had emergency shoulder after a fall on some ice. She also had a hip replaced.
Said the hip was nothing compared to the shoulder. So do the PT religiously from the start would be my suggestion.

But I know you will....

You gotta vote in November right?

finnbow 08-20-2024 04:03 PM

Oh, man. Good luck. A good PT regimen will have you pulling the lever in November with one arm while keeping the MAGA polling place Gestapo at bay with the other.;)

Noogies 08-20-2024 04:27 PM

Best of luck and sincere wishes for a great outcome.

In future use a nail gun and hope the surgery is successful. :D

Good luck Bob, from one asshole to another.;)

My Friend, I will be thinking of you on Thursday and you have my best wishes for the best possible outcome

Thanks everybody for the well wishes.

Vote true blue in Roevember!

RickeyM 08-21-2024 07:58 AM

Good luck on ya'. Don't forget that good nutrition is the keystone of recovery. Gotta fuel the machine for the recovery and rebuilding.
For that other part, I'll try and behave :)

Dondilion 08-21-2024 11:27 AM

Good luck!
And check carefully the pills they give you after the surgery.

Or make sure you're stocked up on some sticky-icky Indica (though I bet you have that covered).

Ayup, sure do. (grin) Have a couple of the Blueberry versions in the back yard doing nicely amongst a good assortment of sativas including some Panama Red.

Who'da thunk that it would be legal in our lifetimes.

And the legalization effort in Maryland went off without a hitch.

Had my lower left ball joint replaced a little bit over a year ago.

It's utterly amazing (for those of us who have insurance).

My left leg is still 10 mm longer than my right, which sucks. Doc could have shaved my femur, or ordered the titanium stem like 7 mm shorter.

Nobody listens to me. Like I'm going to pay a therapist.

So, they made you an honorary West Virginian? (one leg shorter.) Sorry to hear that, Big E. Getting old ain't for the faint of heart, that's for sure.
Medicare paid for my titanium knee and a laminectomy at L4 & L5 through Healthcare Partners and they'll pay for my new shoulder. I guess getting old and decrepit isn't quite so bad.

bobabode 08-21-2024 01:51 PM

My bro-in-law just installed a second handrail for me on the left side of the stairs since I'll be in a sling for several weeks. Lucked into one of the best shoulder surgeons here in Orange county so I'm ready, I guess.

bobabode 08-22-2024 01:47 PM

done before noon, yay! back home in bed zonked out my gourd. smh:rolleyes:

Oerets 08-22-2024 03:56 PM

Great news!

Rest up the fun (PT) begins soon enough.:D

bobabode 08-25-2024 03:07 PM

Fun times, grumble, grumble. It feels like someone took a jack hammer to my sorry ass...;)

Oerets 08-26-2024 05:43 AM

One day at a time.

Remember when my wife was going to her PT secession and being told by them, take a pain pill before leaving home.

My Friend, I really hope this passes quickly for you, I know firsthand the physical agony of such repairs.

I absolutely love your sense of humor, "Balljoint surgery" :D

Thanks, this is my third major surgery (right knee replaced, laminectomy at L4, L5 and now a shoulder replacement).

Mommas don't let your babies grow up to be roofers. (grin)

Have 'A Question Of Balance' by the Moody Blues playing on my old Magnavox tube amps at the moment, turned up to eleven. :D

donquixote99 08-28-2024 09:55 PM

A Moody Blues evening, I can see that. Myself, I've come down with a cold. Discomforts don't compare with the pain of jointwork, but it's still enough to have me watching The Fellowship of the Ring for the first time in a while. Comfort through art.

Almost regretting the whole damned fracking thing, my friend...almost. ;) If I turn the wrong way this new shoulder has me sobbing on my knees. I can't wait to start PT in four weeks. Think I'll lay in a case or two of Maker's Mark for that.

Watching the 'Firefly' series for the third or fourth time and enjoying some NorCal buds my MAGA neighbor came home with. Funny how this state rolls. Hopefully his grower didn't use all manner of nasty shit on his plants. Mine are completely organic and clean of any pesticides and lab made fertilizers. I like to know what's in my smoke.

I'm about to release an army of Lady bugs to munch on any aphids and spray the plants with some Bacillus thuringiensis to kill off any caterpillars chomping on my flowers.

I'll have to snap a couple pics of my back patio. Everything is stretching for the sky at this point and sprouting buds all over. I may have to get creative soon to keep them from peeping over the six foot cinderblock back wall. :D

Fond old memory reading this. When I was about 13 or 14 in 1970, I bolted to my older brother's apartment in 7 Corners, Virginia to escape home life and he turned me onto The Lord Of The Ring books. I'd sit there for hours reading the books while playing the Moody Blues on his stereo. The two are now inextricably linked in my mind.

At one point we took the now very collectable and expensive dustcover from his hardcover copy of the Hobbit and graphed it out and transferred it to the long wall in the living room of his rented apartment. Then we took jugs of tempera paint and faithfully reproduced 'The Lonely Mountain' including Smaug in his living room.

It must've taken several coats of primer to obliterate that wall once he moved out. :D

Patty and I have been enjoying the 'Rings Of Power' series immensely. The Second Age and the Silmarillion come to life. Even good old Tom Bombadil, his yellow boots and Old Man Willow have made a brief appearance.

Cheers, old man and thanks for sparking an old memory of a bygone era. :)

Cool indeed. A merry meeting of stuff that warms the old heart still.

Pain is receding from overwhelming to annoying. PT starts next week on the 26th. Bourbon or Everclear? :D;)

bobabode 09-26-2024 11:10 AM

Major setback. Rolled over in bed and dislocated the new shoulder. After several attempts at re-setting it my surgeon went back in and added some armature.

Sigh...pain is off the charts but I have another seven inch scar to complement the first. I'm starting to look like some old scarred up kraut who attended Heidelberg University's noted saber program.

Oerets 09-26-2024 11:33 AM

Wow!

Was it due to your muscles being weak and not holding it in place?

That and being stupid, I guess. He's added some sort of clip that's supposed to lock it in place. We'll see how it goes.

Oerets 09-26-2024 12:52 PM

I know the back surgery of mine weaken the lower back causing more problems not there before.

Hoping a fast recovery is in your future.

Pain Management doc was a little blown away when I described the latest tale of woe.

Time to bake up a few sheets of cookies using some high test green/gold butter I made last spring. One or two cookies before bed really helps me sleep.

bobabode 10-24-2024 04:05 PM

Had the stitches out and taking it easy. That particular pain that occurred when I picked up my Guild D-4 six string acoustic is now gone. This dreadnought from 1986 has a fat ass. ((grin))

Good lord, getting old is a trial.
