The Dallas Cowboys Humiliation
 

Very little warms my heart more than watching the Dallas Cowboy get humiliated on national TV and their humiliation yesterday was of epic proportion. I'm almost as happy as my son-in-law, born in Wisconsin and a lifelong cheesehead. Stephen A. Smith rants on ESPN this morning is must-see TV.

This is how diplomacy should be resolved.

Kansas City. Headquarters of the New World Order. We have Taylor Swift, too.

Why are you happy that they were humiliated?

Don't know any "True Blue" Cowboy fans I take it?

Because they're the feckin' Dallas Cowboys! 'Nuf said.

Seriously though, in order to enjoy watching sports one needs to have teams they love and teams they hate. Otherwise, there's simply no point in watching. And the Cowboys, more than any other team, are a love 'em or hate 'em team and I was born in Washington, DC, the epicenter of Cowboy hatred. In other words, it just comes natural.

We could have world domination (without blowing up the audience), based on one decree:

Do NOT kick the spherical ball.

You sure have a gift for speaking cryptically. FWIW, footballs are not spherical.

Footballs are spherical in Europe and Latin America.

The USA struggles to compete at soccer.

Uh OK, but the Cowboys do not play soccer.

Nor do the Kansas City Chiefs, the sports team that made my hometown the Capitol of the New World Order.

There's a logic to my stupidity (and I swear I'm funny).

One thing you've amply demonstrated over the past several days is that living isolated from society out of fear of current events/trends is more damaging to your psyche than learning to deal rationally with them (or to ignore them).

I am more a Dak fan than a Cowboy fan. I could not watch the match because I was fearful of another failure.

From my point of view, you are both nuts because you care about sports teams.

Sometimes it is hard to outgrow youthful fantasies and winter especially for some people reinforces the indulgence.

It's entertainment, often dramatic, a touchstone of American culture and often at the forefront of social change. This would be a different country without Jackie Robinson, Curt Flood, Muhammad Ali, Arthur Ashe, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Don Haskins, Ed O'Bannon, Billie Jean King, Tommie Smith & John Carlos ...

I personally cannot fathom not being interested in sports and part of being interested in sports is having a deliberate bias in favor of and against certain teams. It simply makes it more fun and interesting. Why forego entertainment, particularly entertainment that is a huge part of the American experience?

Kind of what I am thinking also.

When I was a kid I sort of followed baseball. But I grew up near Chicago, and in those days no Chicago baseball team, especially the Cubs that were on TV the most, ever got anywhere. I think the long, persistent negative reinforcement led me to disengage utterly in self-defense. To this day I am convinced that if I have a favorite if I happen to watch a game, that fact will assure their loss.
