Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, wife charged with bribery

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/22/sen-...h-bribery.html

The indictment says that the Democrat Menendez and his wife from at least 2018 through 2022 accepted “hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange for using Menendez’s power and influence as Senator” to benefit the men and Egypt.

The indictment says that during a June 2022 raid on the Menendezs’ New Jersey home and a safe deposit box, federal agents found cash, gold and a luxury vehicle that were the “fruits of [the couple’s] corrupt bribery agreement” with the businessmen.

“Over $480,000 in cash — much of it stuffed into envelopes and hidden in clothing, closets, and a safe—was discovered in the home, along with over $70,000 in Nadine Menendez’s safe deposit box,” the indictment said.

“Some of the envelopes contained the fingerprints and/or DNA of Daibes or his driver,” the charging document said.

In addition to the cash, agents also seized 81.5 ounces of gold bars, which at current prices are worth about $155,000.

What?!? whell posting a link to an article from a "Lefty" news organization? What?!? A lefty news organization posting a story about a corrupt Democrat. I think the devil just felt a chill.

I'm going to bet nowhere will be seen calls to defund the prosecutors. Nowhere to be seen will be attacks on the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan. Nowhere will be claims of weaponization of the prosecution. From nowhere will you see the Democratic party leadership rushing to his defense. He will be tried and if the evidence warrants it he'll be convicted. That's how the Dems roll.

Chicks 09-22-2023 10:45 AM

Huh. So, all that Reich-wing whining about a "two-tiered" justice system was just lies, Whell? You must be so embarrassed for your MAGA compatriots.

Anyway, Faux "News" will have this on repeat for the next 6 months...

Rajoo 09-22-2023 11:03 AM

This has been ongoing for quite some time and not shocker by any means.

Two bullshit posts and one relevant post.

If Menendez were a Repub, the Dems and the media would have been screaming for his resignation since the underage prostitute story emerged in early 2013, and they'd have doubled down in 2015 when he was accused of bribery the first time. They wouldn't have waited until the indictments ever became convictions.

You are still missing the point though.

Anyone here bitching, whatabouting or suggesting that he should not be indicted and prosecuted? No. Therein lies the difference.

Why it took this long, we will find out soon enough. During an ongoing investigation, very few details usually leak.

OTOH, we have Trumpers trumpeting on their T-shirts claiming Trump did nothing wrong. How does that come about.

Oerets 09-22-2023 02:21 PM

I think the Democrats have learned the lesson from the Republicans on handing issues of integrity and corruption.

The days of Senator Al Franken stepping down are long gone. Fight till the bitter end.

Yep. Bob Menendez has been a dead man walking for some time now and unlike the GQP nobody is leaping to his defense.

Who takes fricking gold bars as a bribe? (grin)

Surprised that they have appreciated and holding their value.

Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, wife charged with bribery

I guess Whell expects me to scream about this being a witch hunt. I could not care less if he is convicted. He has been pretty sleazy for a while.

Menendez should switch parties. The GOP would let him have at least three more indictments.

Clarence Thomas Keeps Getting Caught With Mega Donors? Let’s Hit Him In His Pockets
https://abovethelaw.com/2023/09/clar...pockets/?amp=1

Menendez’s corruption is minor compared to uncle Thomas’, you’d surely agree, right Whell? Of course you’ve never said anything about his corruption. Why not?

bobabode 09-23-2023 12:18 AM

Remember when Lord Bing-Bing Bong-Bong was defending Bob 'Gold Brick' Menendez?

finnbow 09-23-2023 07:06 AM

Democrats are not going to have rallies, protests and GoFundMe legal defense fund pages for Bob Menendez nor squeal about witch hunts or two tiers of justice. They also are not going to sell Free Bob hats and shirts, make rap videos for him try and defund the prosecutor.

So much for the equivalency that Whell attempted here.

No, thats not the point. The point is that everyone knew Menendez was dirty. Yet, he was allowed to retain the chair on a powerful Senate committee. I guess from that perspective, the biggest mistake he made was allowing himself to get caught.

Everyone knows Uncle Thomas is far dirtier, yet the Reich has circled the wagons to protect him, and he refuses to recuse on cases where he’s clearly been compromised. Yet not a word from you about any of his many sins. Doesn’t that make you, as always, a flaming hypocrite?

Go ahead and deny it. Tell us about all the Repugnants who you have ratted out for their criminal behavior. Here's a short list...

Bannon
Stone
Weisselberg
Navarro
Cohen
Flynn
Manafort
Gates
Broidy and...
6,000 insurrectionists

Which of these have you felt the need to alert us to, eh Mikey? Not a fucking one of them.

And what about these Congress Criminals who have been indicted and/or convicted?

Santos
Fortenberry
Collins
Hunter
Grimm
Stevens
Renzi

None of them either Mikey? Maybe you forgot.

So, your racial slur and our whataboutism notwithstanding, what kind of moron are you? The absolutely clueless kind? Or the kind that just doesn't care how stupid they are?

Not a word from you in this thread that's critical of Menendez - you chose to play comparative morality by introducing Clarence Thomas into this thread, which could be interpreted as some kind of weird-ass defense of Menendez - yet you want to call me out for not criticizing someone who has nothing to do with this discussion?

I'm not sure if that makes you a hypocrite, a completely non-self-aware dumbass, a useful idiot, or all of the above. Any way you slice it, it's fun to watch.

No comparisons I afraid GOP!

Well, Menendez has been indicted and no one is rising in support of him or making excuses. But Thomas who seems to be even a bigger crook is hiding behind his 'job for life' security. Furthermore, he is married to an insurrectionist while refusing to recuse himself with all things related to future Inmate No. P01135809.

See your hypocrisy here?

Wasting time if someone by now does not see the obvious, oblivious seems to fit.
Arguing debating pointing out facts matter little when dealing with a closed mind, a drunk or a three year old. Argue with a three year old about bedtime sometime. Probably will get further with a three year old.

I feel compelled to refute when it is so obvious or it is a deliberate disinformation/throwing shit campaign.

Biden is a crook? Take a look at Trump with 91 indictments and the GOP leader.
Hunter Biden made millions influence peddling? Look at Kushner with his $#Billion payout and this is much more serious since he worked in the $45 administration.

Menendez? Dump him, convict him, lock him up if guilty.
If one looks at past history, crooks run 2 to 1 in the GOP.

Attempting to state this, the cult driving the scared little GOP faithful. Will never no matter how much one argues the, points to facts. Change their views. Only make matters worse due to hardening the hate. People don't like being shown to be a fool. Over and over again. This is happening now thus the outrageous theories accusations and outright lies coming from the cult.

We should engage with a less confrontational more friendly path. We need to stay a country after all. I know it will be hard when one side wants to dictate, control completely unable to compromise.

Less than ten flame throwers in the House who hate McCarthy, Biden and the Dems now want to crash our economy. Worse, trump is goading them to do so. Dialog does not work with extremists, just ask McCarthy.

It's a pattern with that guy. Post something like the original post then dispute our responses to it. Then he claims he's only bringing us something that's already "out there". It lets him get his denigrating and insulting rocks off. It's cheaper than therapy I guess. Three pages worth so far.

Yet stiil making the faithful followers fall inline. Pointing out will not change the GOP's closed minds. Already shown to be easily led or controlled.

They need to figure it out for themselves.

To everyone else's pain. Showing they care very little about anyone other then themselves.

The exchange is indicative of a rhetorical strategy known as whataboutism, which occurs when officials implicated in wrongdoing whip out a counter-example of a similar abuse from the accusing country, with the goal of undermining the legitimacy of the criticism itself.

Sorry but your integrity is like a fart in a windstorm. No lefty here is defending Menendez, by any criteria...and particularly any criteria out of a MAGA traitor like you. If Menendez committed a crime, let him be convicted and do his time and/or pay his fine. If Hunter Biden committed a crime, let him be convicted and do his time and/or pay his fine. IF DONALD TRUMP COMMITTED A CRIME, LET HIM BE CONVICTED AND DO HIS TIME.

The issue here is hypocrites like you...when did anybody ever see you suggest that you're fine with Donald Trump going to prison...or any other Republican criminal either. Or any comment from you about all the fucking convicted federal criminals who were pardoned by Donald Trump.

Fucking hypocrites like you are the real problem. American people like you are the problem. It's always on the people. We all expect politicians to be vote whores. Americans are getting exactly the government they deserve, and that includes lefties who are waffling about voting for Joe Biden. And that includes the ultra-lib politicians and ultra-lib voters. Piss and moan about Joe Biden, because the alternative is Freedom Caucus traitors who want to bring down this democracy, flawed though it may be, will be who we end up with.
