Texas AG Paxton Impeached?

In an unprecedented move, a Texas House committee voted Thursday to recommend that Attorney General Ken Paxton be impeached and removed from office, citing a yearslong pattern of alleged misconduct and lawbreaking that investigators detailed one day earlier.

Dunno what the next steps are for this cretinous clown.

In Whell's World, this is a good thing. I think Donny may have just found a running mate.

It is a good thing. If the guy abused his office, then let the impeachment proceed.

Birds of a feather…. Whell’s World, where utter corrupt is “good”.

In a history-making late-afternoon vote, a divided Texas House chose Saturday to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton, temporarily removing him from office over allegations of misconduct that included bribery and abuse of office.

The vote to adopt the 20 articles of impeachment was 121-23.

Attention next shifts to the Texas Senate, which will conduct a trial with senators acting as jurors and designated House members presenting their case as impeachment managers.

If only the Congressional Republicans had the balls to do this to Trump the first time, we would be done with that dumb SOB.

Rajoo 05-27-2023 05:03 PM

What the Texas Republicans are planning to do to Ken Paxton is what the national Republicans wished they had done to Trump. They had two chances at it and they whiffed. And the evidence here is indeed overwhelming and will be played out in public. Hope Mr. Obama gets the last laugh.

His is wife is a TX Senator and if she votes to convict him, we know will know for certain he is very bad dude.

Well, he did move his mistress from San Antonio to Austin and got her a sweetheart job with the benefactor who was financing the construction of his new house. Mama Paxton has every reason to be pissed, but she's probably as much of a cretin as he is.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving crook. I notice that Texas voters re-elected him State AG twice. smh...

Chicks 05-27-2023 06:43 PM

TX Repubes actually did the right thing ...yet George Santos remains in the House... SMH

bobabode 05-27-2023 07:57 PM

I wonder whether the state senate will vote to convict. It'll take a 2/3rds vote to send him packing.

121-23 votes in favor of impeachment is pretty damning and his corrupt and criminal conduct is pretty well known, despite winning the election a third time. The Senate convicting him is a tall order and I don't see it happening, but he also tried to blackmail some house members to vote no to impeachment which will not sit well. Resignation is the only option for him I can see unless he carries out his threats of exposing some members of House and Senate.

I've seen that it only takes a simple majority (51%) to convict. TX elected him twice because the opposing candidate was a Democrat.

Paxton’s permanent removal would require a two-thirds vote by the Senate’s 19 Republicans and dozen Democrats. Paxton’s wife, Angela, is a Republican senator entitled to vote. So is Sen. Bryan Hughes (R), a Patrick lieutenant mentioned in the House articles of impeachment as having aided Paxton. Patrick has not said how he plans to handle those potential conflicts of interest. Both he and Abbott have remained conspicuously silent during Paxton’s impeachment investigation.

Trump and key figures in MAGAWorld have now come out four-square in favor of Paxton. Accordingly, conviction by the Senate is not a foregone conclusion considering that rampant corruption is a desirable attribute for MAGA politicians.

Per CNN: "For Paxton to be removed from office, two-thirds of the Texas Senate's members who are present will have to vote to convict him."

And to be technical, a simple majority is 50%+1. :)

RickeyM 05-28-2023 08:25 AM

So the Repubes circle the wagons and Paxton wears impeachment as a badge of honor.

Rajoo 05-28-2023 11:15 AM

Or they could delay the Senate proceedings effectively keeping him out of office, but avoiding an impeachment vote. The more I read about it, this is not a simple case of corruption and impeachment, there is infighting within the Texas Republicans. My guess is that Paxton was strong arming/blackmailing some of the TX members of congress who were grumbling about his corruption, especially the $3.2M settlement with tax payers money.

Rajoo 05-28-2023 03:01 PM

Another thing that is bothering me is that in the impeachment session yesterday in the Texas state house, a lot of the Repugnant politicians were referring to the scum Paxton as General Paxton instead of Attorney General (or by the acronym AG), as if to imply that he is somehow more than a crooked politician.

donquixote99 05-28-2023 06:07 PM

People respect generals. It's a propaganda gimmick. Shit like that makes me sick.

RickeyM 05-29-2023 08:49 AM

The more better to let the "troops" rally around "The General" instead of around the corrupt snake that he is.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - FBI agents have arrested a Texas businessman at the center of the scandal that led to the historic impeachment of state Attorney General Ken Paxton, jail records show.

Nate Paul was booked into an Austin jail Thursday afternoon after being taken into custody by federal agents, according to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office online inmate listings. It was not immediately clear what charges led to his arrest and the jail records said only that he was being held on a federal detainer.

Paul’s entanglements with Paxton were central to the GOP-led state House of Representatives’ overwhelming vote to impeach the Republican last month.
