DeSantis primary strategy...
On NPR yesterday an analysis found DeSantis, in fear of annoying the 25% of hardcore MAGA republicans, staying away from any negative comments about Donald. Preferring to stick with "issue related" statements. Reckon how long this will last as we have already witnessed the following...
TREMENDOUS CONTENT UPDATED MAR. 22, 2023 Donald Trump’s Nasty Ron DeSantis Nicknames, Ranked 1. "Meatball Ron" (so far off the record, casual conversations only) 2. "Tiny D" (Trump toxic masculinity disorder) 3. " Ron DeEstablishment" 4. "Shutdown Ron" (never enough Covid death for Donald) 5. "Ron Disonest" (Latest in the Lyin Ted, Lyin Hillary, Lyin Comey line) 6. "DeSoros" ??? 7. "Ron DeSanctimonious" 8. "Ron DeSanctus" (Meaningless but easer to remember than Sanctimonious) Well...Cruz never went back at Trump over his "your ugly wife" comment either...so maybe DeSantis is "Tiny D" after all...it appears to run in the party. DeSantis is working from the 25-25-50 strategy of Republican primaries. 25% of Republican voters are hardcore MAGA, 25% hardcore anti-MAGA, 50% undecided (but will never vote for any Democrat). He figures he can win the alleged "independent" Repubican voters and he already has the "never Trumpers." It's a leap. |
^^Musk is much more important to DeSantis now for his 140M Twitter followers. Risk he is taking is that Musk is flakier than a croissant.

What nickname did tRump have for Pence before he vanquished him then named his as his VP.

Desantis has pissed off the Hispanic vote. Trying to stop people jumping the border is one thing but harassing people who are making an honest living is just a no, no.
There is great fear in the immigrant community of Florida regarding proposed new laws relating to the transportation and employment of undocumented immigrants. Some construction sites are empty as immigrants move to other states, go on strike, stay at home. |
Ronny Doo-doo feels he doesn't need the Hispanic vote, the LGTPQ+(?) vote, the "woke" vote, the Dem vote, or the Black vote. If he was running to be president of The Villages he'd be a shoo-in.

Being opposed to and by the previously mentioned groups make him a VP natural.

The GQP Reps want to win, so so bad. They have already made a deal with the devil and sold their souls.
So putting together a ticket in all reality matters little. The are all in! Got them votes! |

Note, DeFascist has his own mother in the shadows, Casey who I have read is the brains behind his rise to power. Cannot see her saying yes to playing second fiddle. |
In the OP I pondered how long it would take DeSantis to begin to retaliate...well here's the answer...
DeSantis is going after Trump like never before Quote:

With Casey running the show, she would not want Ron to be associated with Trump, a certified loser. What can Trump do for DeSantis? Nothing. Getting featured on Twitter is a huge leg up for him unless Trump also takes his act there. DeSantis already has the national stage and he can raise his profile further by standing up to Trump. But of course, the MAGAts will hate him for it and I still believe that DeSantis cannot beat Trump in the primaries. Trump branded Koolaid has a long shelf life. The uncertainty is how will the three pending lawsuits (GA and the two by Smith) impact Trump's campaign. If I were DeSantis, I will be playing this up loud and clear and take my chances with the MAGAts. In reality, DeFascist is more MAGA than the MAGAman himself and as you have said, they will come around if he is the nominee and DeSantist can also pull in the never Trumpers in the GOP. Should turn out to be a entertaining cage fight. and if he does opt to become Trump's running mate, hope we don't get cheated out of a mano a mano battle between Ron and Don. |
DeSantis better have a campaign strategy to deal with this:
A Texas sheriff’s department has recommended that the district attorney in Bexar County bring criminal charges over the first iteration of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ so-called migrant relocation program. Those flights last September sent 49 asylum seekers, most of them Venezuelans, from San Antonio to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. According to a statement provided to the Miami Herald, the Bexar County sheriff completed its criminal investigation into the on-the-ground operation that allegedly lured migrants onto the flights with false promises of jobs and opportunities on the other end. “The case filed includes both felony and misdemeanor charges of Unlawful Restraint,” according to the statement. “At this time, the case is being reviewed by the DA’s office. Once an update is available, it will be provided to the public.” https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...276114271.html He's also now being investigated in CA for kidnapping in the recent case of him flying 2 planes of migrants to Sacramento in similar fashion. |

If Trump did not have these serious legal issues, he would again run practically unopposed. Doubt if Pence would have made a squeak. |
My money is on him being the first to announce the first thing he will do as President, declassifying all the files Trump kept after leaving as President. Pardon Trump at the same time for any and all crimes past and future.
|
That would leave Donny free to continue running the Republican party. That'd be a problem for Meatball with him being president but tRump still pulling the party's strings.
