Y'all are makin' me lazy.........

I just realized I have been up since 9a.m. and haven't accomplished a dang thing yet. Gotta get out and finish puttin' new brake pads on the Dakota before it rains. Thank God for airtools.

Be sure and turn your rotors and drums.

I was going to fix the tractor but the fuel pump did not arrive in yesterdays mail so I guess I will find summat else that needs fixing.

BlueStreak 06-13-2010 11:06 AM

Done. Just gotta bleed them now. Later on, it's just too darn hot out there, now.

What did you do that requires the brakes to be bled?

Replaced the hose on the passenger side. She was "weeping" a bit. I was in such a hurry, I forgot to bleed. I imagine there are bubbles.

BlueStreak 06-15-2010 01:06 AM

The Dakota is up and rollin'! And stopping, when appropriate. Next up, it needs new shocks. Getting a little bouncy.

merrylander 06-15-2010 07:04 AM

Got a phone call last night, fuel pump was back ordered but should be here by the weekend - oh joy, anyone need hay for their animals?

Any way you could strap a can of gas on the hood and feed the carb via gravity?

A crude fix, but it might allow you to knock down the ol' weedpatch before it gets out of hand.

Chas

merrylander 06-15-2010 10:20 AM

Nah, I'll just hire it out this time.

Combwork 06-21-2010 05:42 AM

Still want to strap a JATO unit on the top of my '69 Lincoln sedan & see if I can get that old beast airborne... We ain't got any rock cliff st crash it into, so I oughta be alrite, unlike the guy that tried it w/a '66 Impala...(grin)

Well she is running fine now, t'was the damned suction tube in the gas tank, was all split and cracked. Part that still puzzles me is that when I blew into the hose ahead of the filter I would hear bubbles in the tank and the resulting pressure was enough to make gas come out of the hose. Maybe after 12 years I will replace all the fuel lines.

I used to work with a guy who believed you could get better gas mileage if the gasoline was better vaporized. So he ran a coil of copper tubing from the cooling system to a bowl he had mounted above the carb. The idea was that as soon as the engine reached operating temperature he would switch the fuel supply from the carb to the bowl. Oh yeah!

Ethanol is rough on fuel lines. Blew one on my old Dodge a couple of years ago. Went through $50 worth of gas in 1 1/2 miles.

Also left a trail on the pavement that was still visible two weeks later.

I've been looking for that story for YEARS, iirc it was in Car and Driver? Any idea where I can find it, perhaps post it :) ?

I have ordered up enough fuel line to replace the works however that will wait a bit. Ran fine yesterday while I cut down a dead pine with a handsaw, planted a fresh one, watered all the new Norway Spruce then mowed 3.5 acres. Today I feel like s**t so I am just going to sit on my butt.

Used the handsaw because the damned chainsaw will not start.

piece-itpete 06-22-2010 09:04 AM

Darn it, it was such a good story it HAD to be fake :(

Gosh Rob you sure don't quit.
