The Omicron Menace

"In a Tuesday briefing with the White House's COVID-19 response team, Fauci — the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — said existing pandemic measures should work against the newly detected variant.

Fauci recommended the following steps to protect against the Omicron variant:

Get vaccinated against COVID-19.
If you're already vaccinated, get a booster shot.
Use masks.
Avoid crowded places.
Gather outdoors when possible.
Socially distance from others.
Get tested.
Isolate from others if you test positive for COVID-19."

Seems simple doesn't it?

Chicks 11-30-2021 10:17 PM

But… but…. That’s infringing on my liberties, dad gummit! I’m a libertarian, so I don’t give a crap about YOU, it’s all about me, me, me!!!! So long as this fake virus (the commie Dems made it all up) doesn’t kill ME, I don’t care. I’m not about to have MY liberties stomped on to protect YOU!

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

A close friends daughter who is married into a Trumper family refuses to have her kids wear masks, even when visiting them. Absolute insanity and how she flipped from a well bred well educated family is quite simply shocking.

barbara 12-01-2021 08:57 AM

My son and daughter in law are expecting in March and her parents have not gotten vaccinated and see no need to. I'm worried. Daughter in law says she won't let her parents see the baby unless they are vaccinated. I'm still worried.

Well, the first Omicron case is here folks in CA, traveler from South Africa who is fully vaccinated.

Quote:

The patient, a traveler who returned to California from South Africa on Nov. 22, is in isolation, and aggressive contact tracing is underway, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The individual was fully vaccinated and had mild symptoms that are improving. Gov. Gavin Newsom of California said the person had received two doses of the Moderna vaccine but was within the six-month window and had thus not received a booster.
Sad part is that when news of this breaks out, the Trump Cult will chime in, "see vaccines don't work".

My niece by marriage, a Bible thumper extraordinaire said when her dad who was fully vaccinated yet contracted Covid-19 and spent a week in intensive care, "see vaaccines don't work. This is why we (husband who is a full time preacher, and two kids) are not vaccinated." She was actually thumbing her nose at us.

RickeyM 12-02-2021 09:26 AM

A week in intensive care is still better than an eternity in a grave.

Good for her.

"A Superior Court judge has denied a request by the Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters union seeking a preliminary injunction to delay enforcement of the city’s vaccine mandate.

The ruling is “a victory for public health and safety in Los Angeles,” City Atty. Mike Feuer said in a statement.

“The Court recognized the emergency we’re in, and the harm that enjoining implementation of the vaccine mandate could have caused,” Feuer said. “Beyond this case, the presence of the new, highly contagious variant here in L.A. underscores the importance of vaccinating our first responders — indeed, of vaccinating everyone.”" LA Times

Positive in the knowledge of not alone in having any little sympathy for those selfish crybabies. Who thinking by yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs like a adolescent child refusing a jacket to school on a cold day, replaces known facts.

If the shoe were on the other foot no mystery on just how this would be handled.

Bunch of crybabies, because they're on the side that politicized the whole affair, afraid of having to admit the Dems were right.

Pro-Trump counties now have far higher COVID death rates. Misinformation is to blame

Its NPR, so we already know what the response is going to be. Reality is that Darwin's theory is for real.

Quote:

Since May 2021, people living in counties that voted heavily for Donald Trump during the last presidential election have been nearly three times as likely to die from COVID-19 as those who live in areas that went for now-President Biden. That's according to a new analysis by NPR that examines how political polarization and misinformation are driving a significant share of the deaths in the pandemic.
Quote:

In October, the reddest tenth of the country saw death rates that were six times higher than the bluest tenth, according to Charles Gaba, an independent health care analyst who's been tracking partisanship trends during the pandemic and helped to review NPR's methodology. Those numbers have dropped slightly in recent weeks, Gaba says: "It's back down to around 5.5 times higher."

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said to avoid travel to France, Portugal, Cyprus, Andorra and Liechtenstein, grouping all in a Level 4 category that represents a “very high” level of the coronavirus. Countries and territories in this group have an infection incidence rate of more than 500 new cases per 100,000 people over the past 28 days (or, in places with fewer than 100,000 residents, more than 500 cases cumulatively over the past 28 days)." Typical incomprehensible Catch-22 created by the Goober states. Hospital workers refusing to get vaccinated for Covid-19 which they seem to be OK with for now. They get a pass because they need them to treat the incoming barrage of Covid patients. This is the classic blind leading the blind.

To justify this waiver, Goober states have lawsuits going against the Biden administration. Bite my nose to spite my face is in play here.

One of my cousins up in the Bay area in a Long Term Facility was telling me just Saturday. That he would go out to via the van, all was OK then. Come back a little later and be force into a lock down because of a change while he was out.

Have to call him later and see if this will effect him. What little enjoyments are in his life. Going to the Bowling alley for a hamburger fries and a beer. Then will cause him to be locked down in isolation for two weeks out of the fear of being exposed.....

I never had any symphony for those who have refused to take this serious.

bobabode 12-21-2021 03:38 PM

President Biden orders 500,000,000 home test kits and calls up 1,000 of our military to provide help to the nations' hospitals. It's looking really grim for the unvaccinated due to the Omicron mutation.

Look, I don't care if you're a dyed in the wool conservative or a knuckleheaded librul, please get the jab. All three of them. Don't be a Luddite.

Hiya Barny, I was at the CVS/Target yesterday and folks were lining up for the jab. The pharmacists were looking more than a little frazzled but they were moving them right along. I'm going to pick up a bunch of gift certificates to Starbucks for them.

Oerets 12-21-2021 04:01 PM

I think Biden is being to nice with the very people who are causing the up tick in C-19 cases. Sure there would still be the infected, just not the number of the very sick and dying. The overwhelming of the medical facilities and test sites.....

Place the blame squarely on those who are the root cause of the nightmare we are in.

RickeyM 12-21-2021 04:44 PM

If it's not the Omicron variant it will be something else. 'Rona's going to decimate the unbelievers until death & suffering comes knocking and unfortunately the rest of us are at risk too. Less of a risk but still at risk.

Oh you simple minded folks!

Omikron is yesterday. It is (almost) history.

The latest topic is Omega.

I hope that the Officials all over the world will realize this new threat timely.

Wake up! Wake up NOW!!!

However:

Merry Christmas to all of you!

Rajoo 12-22-2021 05:10 PM

The Omicron variant though less potent than the Delta breaks through vaccinated folks and also has shown that those with immunity are still prone to get re-infected.

South Africa is showing a rapid decline in infections but it will run through its course in other countries until yet another variant rears its ugly head.

Sad to say that we are in for a long haul and life is now getting quite tiring and boring. Unfortunately the herd immunity that we expected is no longer a reality if future variants can break through both natural immunity and vaccines. From what I know, Pfizer vaccines are only about 70% effective against Omicron. Israel will be inoculating their 60 and older folks with Pfizer and would be quite interesting to see the results. From what I know, Israel was an early adopter and procured Pfizer vaccines ahead of all other countries, as as such they are a benchmark for Pfizer.

Mark B 12-23-2021 12:38 AM

Herd immunity for Covid-19 via natural immunity through infection was a dangerous fantasy that should have been decisively dismissed by heath experts early in the epidemic.

The text quoted below is an excerpt from an article published by the Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-...s/art-20486808.

Quote:

Natural infection

Herd immunity can be reached when enough people in the population have recovered from a disease and have developed protective antibodies against future infection.

However, there are some major problems with relying on community infection to create herd immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19:
  • Reinfection. It’s not clear how long you are protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19. Even if you have antibodies, you could get COVID-19 again.
  • Health impactExperts estimate that in the U.S., 70% of the population — more than 200 million people — would have to recover from COVID-19 to halt the pandemic. This number of infections could lead to serious complications and millions of deaths, especially among older people and those who have existing health conditions. The health care system could quickly become overwhelmed.

RickeyM 12-23-2021 08:30 AM

That herd immunity fantasy was championed by certain Reich-Wingers and the former guy. Either by words or actions they wanted us to go that way. The ugly truth they never mentioned was the death, suffering and strain on the health care system that ensued. It boggles the mind that they thought people wouldn't see what was happening. Oh yes there are those with their heads in the sand but when those four horsemen come calling...

"Donald Trump is "destroying himself" and "committing political suicide" by endorsing COVID-19 vaccines and not doing enough to help jailed Capitol insurrectionists, according to MAGA conspiracy theorist Alex Jones."

So does the cult follow Diaper Don or Alex Jones? They do have an amazing ability to rationalize anything. As friends & family get claimed by Covid vocal opposition to vaccines may wane. Being out of office there's limits on what he can do to help the insurrectionists and most of them are getting slaps on the wrist anyway. Donny could as a campaign promise pledge to pardon any convicted insurrectionists should he get into the WH again.

Candace Owens suggests Trump only touted vaccines because he's too old to know how to find alternative sources online

Quote:

Donald Trump is backing the COVID-19 vaccine because he is "old," the conservative activist Candace Owens suggested to her followers this week.

"People oftentimes forget, like, how old Trump is," she said in an Instagram video posted Thursday. "Like they came from a time before TV, before internet, before being able to conduct their independent research
So there you have it folks. "Forgive him for he knows not what he does".

Yes, perhaps............
But it also a fact that the nut base elects whack jobs like MTG, Bobert, Gosar, Brooks, etc. and the primary qualification they have is that they are unabashed Trump worshipers. Look at the guy (ex-coach) who won the Senate seat in Alabama!
