German Election 9/26/2021

I voted for "Die Linke" which got 6% in the latest polls. Horrible: the Nazis from the "AfD" got 11 % in the latest polls.

I hope that Olaf Scholz will be the next Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. He does not look sexy. But he is a very competent politician.

Chris, I hope that works out for Germany.

Chris, Armin Laschet looked to be Angela Merkel's pick.
The last I saw reported yesterday.

Yes, it is scary to even be considering the AfD for anything anywhere.

Hate and anger has overtaken the world it seems.

Trying to get along with others playing nice is so out of fashion now.

One has to start to wonder it climate change demising resources over population and inequities in distribution of wealth are the driving forces.

It has to work out for Germany and to a certain extent to the entire world as well.

Planet is transitioning to lifeboat rules.

It seems that Olaf Scholz' SPD made it. But it was very close.

SPD means Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschland. This party is left-conservative, but for a couple of decades the stress is rather on conservative than on left.

What about the so-called "Greens".

So-called? So what are they really, if not Greens?

It's amazing how far into the mainstream of German politics the Greens have come in the past 40 years. They were considered a joke when they first showed up in ~1980.

When I turned 18, I voted for the Greens in the German Election in Autumn, 1980. The foundation of the Greens were a result of the big German anti nuclear power movement in the late 70s.

It is likely that this Green politician, Annalena Baerbock, will become chancellor in four years and vice-chancellor in the current new government.

The characters of the German political future.

Forget Angela Merkel.

What about the fraud.....

Looks like it is not as crazy as our election.

Good thing.

""Myths about ballot 'fraud' at German election polls""

HarmanKardon 09-29-2021 03:05 PM

"Myths about ballot fraud at German election polls" are what they are - romantic fairy tales told by deranged minds. Unfortunately there are millions of them in Germany, and so there are in the United States.

Oerets 09-29-2021 04:00 PM

Too many unwilling to accept a reality they dislike, when believing a myth, a lie or a wish is easier. If by accepting, believing the truth, the whole belief system would collapse for them.

And you likely remember the quip about the Greens, "Die Grünen meinen dass Sie kriegen ihre Strom direkt aus der Steckdose."

Translation: The Greens believe that they get their electricity directly from the electrical outlet (i.e., they believe their environmentalism to be so pure that their electrical power doesn't come from dirty coal or dangerous nukes. It is innocently and spontaneously generated on the spot by their environmentally conscious electrical outlet.)

I think there are far too many who see things at such a simple level, regardless of their political affiliation.

Dondilion 10-05-2021 08:09 PM

It is surprising that a technologically advanced country such as Germany gave up on nuclear so easily.

Germany is a better-functioning democracy than we are. The government there responds to the will of the people.

HarmanKardon 10-06-2021 07:36 AM

The Greens are no angels, neither are the Friday for Future kids. (Think of the teens using electrical gadgets about 10 - 15 hours daily, which is actually not very sustainable).

But groups like thise started to trigger to think about a system that Capra calls the "systemic conception". It is this systemic conception (see also Klaus Schwab: "The Great Reset") which will help the human race to survive in the 21st century.

So then, why did we drop non CO2 producing nuclear power like a hot potato too?

While Germany's democracy does give each citizen's vote equal value, I wouldn't necessarily call it better functioning. I think both governments respond to the "will of the people" given that each people's will is different. Conflicting wills give us the compromised governments we live under.

Often times the "will" belongs to the group which can exert the most pressure...for instance who can consistently bring a large crowd to the streets.

Governments have many times been chastised and overturned by the will of the street.

A very democratic approach to really serious issue is the referendum.
