Which Way Do You Lean?

How do you see yourself in the political spectrum?

Boreas 05-12-2010 11:19 AM

Lennon was alright until Yoko got ahold of him.

Spotty at best. I don't agree, or disagree with either party entirely. I hate generalizations made by both however.

If I had to pick, social propagrams(pro)+(paganda)+(grams) are definately where my priorities fall right now. Democrat.

finnbow 05-12-2010 12:33 PM

I suppose I "groove in the middle," as it were. In my view, however, the GOP is straying pretty far from the middle of late. Accordingly, my middle may lean a bit left.

I truly wish the GOP would return to reality and engage in politics a bit more honestly, rather than just throwing raw meat to rabid dogs. Dubya and Co. stripped away any remaining support I had for the GOP.:(

BlueStreak 05-12-2010 12:34 PM

I once considered myself slightly right of center. But, as the country slowly loses it's mind and moves further to the right, I guess you could call me a Moderate Democrat.

Boreas 05-12-2010 12:43 PM

My left leg is shorter than my right so I try to lean right a bit to compensate. It's very difficult.

John

Running around hills John? :)

And your anglo girlfriend is named Eileen, whereas your Japanese mistress is named Irene.

merrylander 05-12-2010 01:24 PM

A conservative which is currently not really the middle, and I vote Democrat.

I live in my own little world...I like it because it's not very crowded.

Tough question. Although I am clearly liberal on domestic matters I am a hard ass on foreign policy.
Even more confusing is that I change with the times. When I feel the pendulum has swung to far in one direction, I tend to support the side to help swing it back to the middle.

Amen to that !!

Now where's that beer chug toast smiley when you need it. :D

d-ray657 05-12-2010 09:36 PM

I wish I was lean. Guess I'll have to settle for being well-marbled. (yeah, I know, get off my ass and do something about it.:o)

To get way off topic here, it reminds me of a Lucy episode where Lucy tried to tell a joke. "A grouchy man comes into a restaurant. When he orders, he asks for a pork chop and says make it not very fat. The waiter asks which way. Get it."

I've always considered myself pretty moderate, but the perceived middle has moved right due to wingnut radicalism. As such, I would surmise that I could be painted as slightly left of center.

But I didn't move the ball, the goalposts shifted while I was in the huddle...

Gaspode 05-13-2010 04:58 PM

I'm a bit surprised that so far that the righties outnumber the lefties.

A bit about myself. I started out liberal, then took a left hand turn in my early 20's. Pretty standard for most youth at the time. As I became more aware of the world around me and my responsibilities increased I became more conservative.

Even though I'm a government employee, and perhaps because of that, I believe that smaller government is better, and the less that government has to do with your life the better off you are. Freedom, baby, with all it's consequences good and bad!

That said, I'm mostly here to understand why others have the opinions they do, so I'm actually more interested in viewpoints that differ from my own. I constantly challenge my own beliefs (call my own BS).

Thanks to all you who have voted and posted so far, and please continue!

I make it 8 to 4 Left.

John

Gaspode 05-13-2010 05:46 PM

My math shows 4 right of center and 3 left of center, with 4 in the center.

Actually, pretty evenly split.

Or are the stories true that liberals always vote more than once? :D

This poll is what we think of OURSELVES, I wonder what it would look like if we could rate eachother. Some of us. whho consider ourself to be moderate, might not not be as accuarate as we deem. Also, who is to say we are actually telling the truth.

And then again, for all we know, them conservatives may have rigged the election by sending letters and such, banning most of the liberals from being able to vote. :p

I'm not trying to be an ass, but this implies that you're counting the "middle" as "left?"

That's the issue with the Republican Party, today, and why their plaintive wailing and gnashing of teeth is so desperate. Somehow -- Beck? Limbaugh? Fox News? -- they've become convinced that moderate normalcy is left-wing lunacy...

The furthest reaches of either ideology are (state or corporate) oligarchy or (Universal) anarchy. One would think the middle is the place to be...

Unbelievable.

I guess I did and probably shouldn't have but "the middle" is the place a lot of people say they are. Unlike DJ or me, they don't like to think of their views as extreme but functionally there is no middle.

People always seem to choose one side or the other (but not one extreme or the other). For instance, Rob says he's a conservative who votes Democratic and Zeke said he's a moderate who suddenly realized the middle had moved off to his right. I'd put both of them on the "functional left". Finn said he's still in the middle but then speaks of how dysfunctional the GOP is. I think he's a lefty at heart. ;)

Well if anyone can point to a Repulican who is conservative let me know, as far as I am concerned they all display the least desirable qualities of libertarianism.

Very fair and honest Sir. I, myself, am perfectly in the middle, an unbaised observer and commentator favoring no side.

Then how can there be a functional left (or anything)?

Oh, wait.

You're interpreting that as opposing the radical right...

Sigh...

Greetings, my friend. Please tell me more of your conservative viewpoints.

Perhaps we can gang up on the libs.
