Both includes Trump being a genius. He knows some things, but is very limited in his abilities and cannot learn anything.

At first figured his personality flaws were somehow quaint cute in the crazy weird uncle way to his supporters. That was the root of his popularity. Still might be.
Do know it is evident their is a percentage of around 30% ignorant enough to believe him to be the savior returned.

He's as ignorant and boorish as the cultists who are devoted to him. That's what they like about him.

Neither, he's a vindictive intuitive demagogue motivated by flattery powered narcissism.
His success says much of his supporters' non-existent ethical standards and ethno/egocentric world construct.

I think that we should not use the word "genius" in the context with Trump. Not even ironically.

I wish I was as stable as this rotten subject.

As much as I disdain Trump, there's no getting around he's very good at some things.

1. Generating fear.
2. Solidifying a base.
3. Leveraging that.

But I don't know if that makes him a genius?

Trump is an example of someone with the innate ability to entertain influence mesmerize a portion of the population. Knows the media and the people who watch commercial TV. Built an empire out of smoke and mirrors.
Not by himself, had willing enablers along for the ride. Out of shared greed and power. Kinda explains why the GOP has capitulated without a fight.

Hitler was amazingly adept at whipping up a crowd and building an unstoppable political machine but, beyond that his pathetic attempt to master military strategy pretty much proved he was an idiot. His inability to grasp that starving, frozen Wehrmacht soldiers would not be fighting valiantly to advance in Russia in NOVEMBER proved he was a dumbass. Blaming the German people for FAILING HIM as Berlin was reduced to rubble over his head proved he was totally incapable to admit his failure.

So, Trump is good at manipulating his stooges? Who cares? This dumbass couldn't make money running casinos. This dumbass doesn't understand that EVERY TIME he vilifies the FBI/DOJ, goes on about firing investigators, claims he can pardon himself....he makes himself look ever more suspicious.

Trump understands his base. That is all.

Fortunately for him the base is spread; that it is not relatively concentrated and this gives him an electoral college advantage. Additionally it makes for easier gerrymandering.

The most recent Gallup poll shows that the only demographic in which he has majority support is non-college educated whites.

he is a genius in that he is able to rile up his people. then they go out and do his bidding. Kinda like the pied piper...
