Do you lock your doors?
Myself, not as a rule. Pretty much only when I go on vacation, very seldom while I'm at home. I have taken to locking my shop...really slowed my neighbor from borrowing things without asking.
He's a great guy, but he doesn't understand how some people react when they notice things are missing. Must have been raised different. Enquiring minds want to know, Chas |
Only when I'm not home or when I go to bed.
|
Most of the time. But, I have left for work, and when I return 10 hours later found the door standing wide open.....and nothing has been touched. And I live in a crappy neighborhood. Guess I'm just lucky.

Locking a door only keeps honest folks from entering. But, I lock them before bed. That way, a thief will wake me trying to enter if the dogs don't eat him in the yard first.

I'm afraid I do. The drug heads will break in for whatever they can get. Usually look for an easy mark so a decent security door and lock will keep them out of the house. Tried to break in through the window of the garage once, but were too unmotivated to actually crawl in. Wife left the 4Runner unlocked the other night and the deadbeats took all her change from the ash tray. Made a mess of things, but didn't take anything else. I can't even think about putting an after market stereo in a car though. Would be gone in a few months. Hell, had the license plates stole once. God damn drugs.

Yeah, at night, & if I'm gonna be gone longer than a few minutes "run to town". Cars unlocked at nite, the cops say I oughta lock 'em, but if they're not, MAYBE they won't trash 'em, just take the couple or 3 bucks' worth of change & go on. But yeah, we have dopers around, too, & unfortunately, I'm fairly close to a bunch of welfare housing they built back in the '60s. Thank you, LBJ, for all yer Great Society bullshit...

doors are routinely locked
|
If I did not lock em, someone could break in and steal me.
|
My wife is really big on locking the doors, even though we live in suburbia. She sleeps days, and even locks the bedroom door.

Routinely since there have been a grooup of people who seem to enjoy locating and beating up on senior citizens in the area.

You & me, both, Sandy. I used to keep change in my truck and they would steal it. I started locking it up, and the assholes vandalized the truck, (Keyed it all up.) Now, I just don't leave anything in it, and the truck is so old and beat up, I don't worry about anyone stealing it. The Challenger stays under the cover, or in the garage when I can make room. Funny (good) thing is, they never mess with the house. And I've got $12,000+ worth of audio gear in here. I know what you mean about the "welfare housing". I have four large "section 8" apartment buildings two blocks from here. It's usually fairly quiet. But, last night there was a bunch of shouting, gunshots and sirens coming from over there. It happens enough that it doesn't even make it into the news anymore. Frickin' crazy. Dave |

Do you lock your doors?
only if i'm gone for more than a day or so.
i live in an almost rural apt complex and there's usually people around to help keep an eye on things. we also have weekend resident nighttime security patrols that help do the same. |

Always, any time of day or night. Doesn't matter if I'm home or away, the doors are locked.
Mostly because I don't like when people do the knock-and-enter thing, or knock, open the door, and yell in "is anybody home...?". Both seem fairly common practice in this neck of the woods. |

Yes, even when I'm home. We got a fellow in the area who likes to let himself in uninvited. You walk into the kitchen, and he'll be there sitting at the table. Don't give 'im money when he asks, either, or he'll bug ya.
I've never met him, personally. The above info was from a neighbor, so I don't take my chances. |

I've done this more than once and it does work. And well worth every penny. Chas |

Yeah, a loan'll do it. I learn that giving a few fokes credit doing mechanic work. I stopped doin' that purdy quik. Had to be an asshole and say, '' yeah, I'll give you credit, I'll take payment in full .. car can sit here til then ''. |
We keep ours locked often...... Especially if I am home alone I do for sure!
|
Just when we go to bed; rest of thhe time.. unlocked.

All the time. It is a habit I developed from living in New York City for long time. Down here in this sleepy section of Florida there is more respect for persons and property. However one should not be too trusting.
Be super careful when teenagers are around. They have the least respect for property. |
