If You're in Texas, Hang On To Your Hats
Hurricane Harvey is coming. 25" to 35" of rain predicted in the next few days.

Saw that on the news. Hope everyone is safe.

Things may get very bad down there. I hope everyone stays safe.
|
Take care, my friends down in Texas, please take care!
|
I think Grumpy is far enough off the coast to avoid a lot of the major stuff, but I bet he still gets a pretty good storm.
|
I wonder what the idiot Televangelists and InfoWars will blame this hurricane on? Should be hilarious. So sad that they have fools who take them seriously.

It is such an epic tragedy: Since last Friday Harvey. And tomorrow Donald. This might be too much...

Houston police reporting about 2000 rescues, while battling looters. Cheers for the first responders.

While you're at it, since man, via global warming, made the hurricane worse, maybe you can also explain to me how man can either make the hurricane less severe, or make it go away completely. Also, while you're at it, we've so far had one of the least warm Augusts that I can remember. Can you explain to me either how global warming caused it to be so unseasonably cool here, or how man can warm it up? As luck would have it, we put in an above ground pool here and its been so cold at night the last couple of weeks that the water is pretty cold for them to swim in. At 1:00 PM today here in Detroit, its 69 degrees. The high, like yesterday, is supposed to be 73. Unlike yesterday, I'm not sure its going to make it to 73. |

Good article, in an excellent magazine run by a thinking Republican, links Harvey's might to global warming. As if there were really any doubt, except among the very, very ignorant...

Characteristically, Trump is already profiteering off the disaster. He will have many other ploys to come, bet on it. He is the scum on the bottom of the barrel.

I read that social media is really beating up on the First Lady for wearing six inch heals to visit the flood.
In her defense, she probably doesn't have many other options in her closet. |

"Mike Pence is on a self-serving blitz of radio appearances this week, touting the Trump administration’s response to Hurricane Harvey. That includes promises to have federal funds ready to go for relief — something he cruelly opposed when he was in Congress. Pence had the nerve, during his several radio interviews Monday, to repeatedly refer to his time in Congress as proof he understands the importance of passing legislation to provide for disaster relief. “We’re very confident that the Congress of the United States is going to be there to provide the resources necessary,” Pence told the host at Houston’s KHOU. He added that he will work with legislators to “make sure that the disaster assistance that already some 22,000 Texans have signed up for is available and is there.” But when thousands of citizens affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 needed Pence’s help, he had other priorities. He was instead focused on bludgeoning those citizens by attaching his extremist political ideology to disaster relief bills, holding up vital support that was urgently needed. Pence said that funding for Katrina relief should be paid for with cuts to Social Security and Medicare, ideas that the right has championed for decades, even though they have proved to be unpopular and destructive again and again. Justifying his cruelty, Pence told reporters at the time that Katrina relief and the rebuilding of devastated areas like New Orleans just had to wait, because “it is not acceptable to take a catastrophe of nature and turn it into a catastrophe of debt.” He also said on the floor of the House, “When a tree falls on your house you tend to the wounded, you rebuild and then you figure out how you are going to pay for it.” Ignoring the dire situation in the region, Pence lectured victims and offered up right-wing talking points. “Let’s pay for the cost of Katrina by reducing the size and scope of government,” he said. Pence even said that legislators should have considered delaying a $40 billion prescription drug benefit for seniors, and use that money for Katrina relief — instead of approving new funding in Congress." Yep. Thanks for reinforcing that Pence, Trump and their idiot, uninformed, uneducated supporters are a bunch of hypocritical asswipes.

"What a crowd, what a turnout!"
Incredible. The idiot in chief holds a mini campaign rally of his idiot supporters, who mysteriously knew exactly where he'd be. No mention of the victims. He is all about himself, wherever, whenever. Utterly unfit to lead. https://qz.com/1065191/hurricane-har...flood-victims/ |

By the way, here's Pence in his own words. So I have to ask: tell me - or point me to the quote - where he said that hurricane relief funds must be paid for with Soc Sec or Medicare cuts. |
