British Elections

Tories losing seats? Hmmm, looks like cozying up to Trump wasn't a winning strategy. :)

Even if the Conservatives hang on in Parliament, Theresa May will go down fairly soon after this debacle of squandering the party's position in unneeded elections. Betting is Boris Johnson will get a turn. That should finish the Tories off good if it happens....

Mrs. May is a perfidious rat and she actually deserves this debacle.

Buyer's remorse?

Effects of "Dementia Tax". :D

Dementia Tax gave the vilified Corbyn an opening which he effectively used to expose the Conservatives' attack on the safety net.

U.S. President Donald Trump's planned state visit to Britain has been postponed after he told Prime Minister Theresa May that he did not want to come until the public supported his visit, the Guardian reported on Sunday.

Now our President's conduct has precluded a visit to our greatest ally.

Chicks 06-11-2017 08:47 AM

Earth to Trump: They will NEVER support your visit. You're widely reviled.

donquixote99 06-11-2017 10:38 AM

It's a shame if you asked me. There was a movement afoot in Britain to line the route and moon Trump, if he'd shown up. That would have been something!

No joke, it was a real movement, and it may well be what cancelled the visit.

I have seen praise for Trump however, along these lines: "He has single handedly made right wing populist leaders unpopular and unelectable throughout the EU, and he did that in only a few months!"

Great for Europe. We are stuck with the incompetent ass, sadly.

From above story:

Quote:

Businessman Woody Johnson has been named as the new US ambassador to the UK, but the President has yet to formally nominate him.
Britain would be justified in breaking diplomatic relations if this person's nomination becomes official, on the grounds that his name is clearly an intentional insult!

McCain Tells British He Prefers Obama on Foreign Policy Leadership

Senator John McCain, a prominent Republican voice on foreign policy, was visibly irked when asked by the Guardian what message Trump had sent to the United Kingdom, one of America’s most enduring allies.

“What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead,” McCain said, while adding of the rest of the world: “They are not sure of American leadership, whether it be in Siberia or whether it be in Antarctica.”

Asked if America’s standing on the global stage was better under Barack Obama, McCain, a fervent critic of the previous administration’s foreign policy, responded: “As far as American leadership is concerned, yes.”

Who (other than Whell, of course) can argue with this assessment?

Chicks 06-11-2017 05:24 PM

Andy Borowitz

Because of his widespread unpopularity, Donald Trump will not be allowed to visit Britain. In other news, I am moving to Britain.
