Der Trumpolini and the ACLU

Looks like Il Douche stuck his man boob in the wringer with this Muslim ban.

Think I'll send a few extra bucks to the good folks over at the ACLU to help out.

I've been a card carrying member for about ten years now. I usually donate about $100/year. There are times I scratch my head at some of the causes they take up. But, few other organizations defend the constitution as fairly as they do. They're not a one trick pony like so many other organizations such as the gun lobby, gay rights, etc., etc.......... Those organizations have their place, but the ACLU will represent anyone with a constitutional beef.

"The federal court for the Eastern District of New York has issued an emergency stay halting President Trump's executive order banning immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S, The Verge reported Saturday night.
The court ruled on a habeas corpus petition filed by the ACLU on behalf of two Iraqi men who were detained at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Friday after Trump's ban." The Hill

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the Oval Office this evening. ;)

Also, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema issued a temporary restraining order to block the removal of any green card holders being detained at Dulles International Airport for seven days. Brinkema’s action also ordered that lawyers have access to those held there because of the president’s ban.

The Sunday morning talkies should be entertaining tomorrow morning. They're sure to provide plenty more fodder demonstrating the idiocy and incompetence of der Trumpenfuhrer.

You betcha. I wonder if these wet behind the ears morons are even having the DoJ look at these ill-conceived executive orders before they enact them?

I think the intent is to satisfy his rabid followers. If the DOJ stops his unconstitutional EO's, he will probably blame them on "Obama's" judges and they will cheer him even louder. So it's a win win for Trump.

If Trump wasn't Trump, you'd be right. But the Donald is really going to hate His Executive Order being blocked. He's going to be gunning for a federal judge, and he'll be twice as pissed when it is explained that you can't fire a federal judge.

Just hope he doesn't try real guns.

"The New Colossus" By Emma Lazurus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

This is who we are, scared little Trumpkins.

Bob, I'm not sure I'd spend to much money right now. I'd save it just in case California secedes and raises taxes through the roof to take care of the influx of illegals and other people's problems that migrate there. It's all I've heard for days now.. California wants to secede. I can't believe it after hearing the hissy fit California threw when Texas talked about ceceding a while back.

Seriously though, what's going on in California? It's big conversation lately but I don't know anyone personally that lives there to get a straight answer out of. I pay no real attention to the tv news anymore

Demonstrations at the major airports, but the optics favor trump.

His hinterland supporters will be pleased.

Some group is gathering signatures but it'll go nowhere even if it gets on the ballot, brother Dave. We wouldn't abandon all those moocher red states that we prop up with our dirty hippie tax dollars. ;) We get back only .78 cents on every dollar we send to Washington plus where would y'all get groceries from if Der Trumpenfurher builds his shitty wall on the Mexico border. (grin)

If we applied the same standards to "extreme vetting" that voters applied to the election of the narcissistic sociopath presently in the WH, Abu al Bagdadi could be secretary of state.

So what?

I was never in favor of the Muslim ban. I'm fine with Trump losing this one. The question is where are the Democrats going to be when Trump tries to get the good parts of his agenda passed? Like his trade policies, or letting Medicare negotiate drug prices? My guess is they'll be fighting those tooth and nail too, such is their hatred for all things Trump.

The fight against those items will be largely conducted by conservatives in Congress.

The ACLU doesn't do much protesting. They pursue legal action against un-American tyrants who show a disdain for the United States Constitution.......like your Fuehrer and his Fourth Reich.

Oh, and I thought the Kochs were now bad guys, since they spoke out against Il Douche'?

If Democrats oppose those things, I would say it's simply because it's a Republican that's pushing them. Which I would also say is foolish in the case of Medicare negotiating drug prices. The trade policies I'm not so sure should be supported because I believe they will drive inflation to unacceptably high levels. That is why I believe Finn is right. Conservatives will likely oppose all but the Muslim ban. Unless, of course they choose to support them purely out of partisanship.

(See, I am not a total lefty.......LOL!)

Yep. Long as the troops are loyal, he can tell a federal judge to pound sand.

So much for that oath. You know, the one where he swore to "Preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the united States?" Nine whole days ago?

Does seem like a long time. Always remember, the USA was a democracy once. Until Jan 20, 2017.

But John Adams famously said "There has yet to be a democracy that didn't committ suicide." Funny, it always used to be conservatives that went around quoting that one.

donquixote99 01-29-2017 10:29 AM

The courts could start finding Trump in contempt over things like this. There's no way they could enforce such orders directly, they couldn't send federal marshals to arrest Trump, but contempt citations would make good grounds for impeachment if Congress ever became so inclined.

Of course, with loyal troops Trump could tell Congress to pound sand too.

Yes, but what Adams had in mind and what those "Conservatives" had in mind were two different things. Adams believed that uneducated, easily led people would elect strong-man tyrants, thus destroying Democracy. He was right.

Modern Conservatives think he was talking about food stamps. Because they are always obsessed with food stamps as the perceived "agent of destruction" that's "ruining America". That and wages that people can actually live on.

“I hope Trump enjoys losing. He’s going to lose so much we’re going to get sick and tired of his losing,” ACLU national political director Faiz Shakir told Yahoo News shortly after the decision was announced.
Faiz should have just taken his win and STFU.

But no, he let his smart mouth overload his ass and now he's on Trump's shit list.

Payback is going to be Hell for this fucker.

And by the way, wot in the hail kinda name is Faiz Shakir?

That ain't no 'Murican name.

finnbow 01-29-2017 12:04 PM

The table below illustrates the problem that Trump is trying to solve (i.e., there is no problem).

https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/...98_table_1.jpg

Not a single one of those murders were committed by people from the 7 banned countries and nearly all were committed by citizens of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE (which aren't included in his ban).

What a bunch of feckin' clowns.

MrPots 01-29-2017 12:13 PM

There is a perfectly logical reason he didn't ban people from the KSA, Egypt and UAE, he's got business interests in them all. Way to put america first trump.

I guess he's not really interested in stopping terrorist from entering the country. In fact it looks more like he just want to keep the poor people out.

Unsurprising considering how selfish the american people have become. We definitely cannot share......

Neither is yours unless you change it to Tom Talkingshit. :D

To answer your question, it's not Christian, Hindu or Budhist. ;)

I do agree that with a name like that, he should let this play out in courts. No need to antagonize Herr Trump when a whole lot of Muslims have been detained at the airports.

I have a strong feeling that he has a lot of investors from SA and UAE. But then Bush gave SA a pass after 9/11 and went after Saddam.

MrPots 01-29-2017 12:33 PM

I read now that customs agents are checking Facebook posts and phone records of those coming into the country.

Everybody should probably scrub their social media of anything critical of Trump, his administration or American post 1/20/17. Ya never know what kind of van might show up in the middle of the night.

The Bush family is personal good friends with the Bin Laden family. Business partners for decades. That's why he abandoned his hunt for bin laden, his family ties were stronger than his concern for america. (like any good republican)
