Fake News Threatens Local Pizza Joint

I don't know if you folks have followed this well-publicized local story, but a bunch of alt-right Trumpsters peddled a fake news story that a local pizza joint was hosting a child sex ring run by Hillary Clinton. Anyway, some Trumpster asshole showed up today with an AR-15 and fired a shot or two announcing that he was there to do his own investigation. BTW, Trump's National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, helped peddle this ridiculous rumor that has resulted in hundreds of death threats and now an alt-right clown with an AR-15.

Just great.

BlueStreak 12-04-2016 08:43 PM

What a bunch of irresponsible assholes. They are their own worst enemies, which in the long run might be a good thing, provided they don't trigger WW3 in the process.

We had an idiot at work make the comment; "Well, I guess I don't have do the patriotic thing, now. I can unpack my shit."........This upon the news of Hillarys defeat. He later claimed it was a joke.

I always knew there were paranoid freaks in this country. I just didn't know there were so many until they all came crawling out of the swamp in the last quarter decade or so.

finnbow 12-04-2016 08:53 PM

Before Joad, Whell and Nailer start bitching about how unfair it is to call this the action of Trumpsters, please explain what Michael Flynn, Trump's National Security Advisor in waiting, was doing helping to circulate this rumor concocted by alt-right websites.

"So? Obama ordered BLM to kill white folks and police officers."............

There, I beat them to it. LMAO!

The scary thing is Flynn seems to be the man right now for Trump's foreign "policy." That is one reason why Trump appears not to be able to get an A list candidate for State. I think Romney would be crazy to serve without demanding that Conway get the heave-ho, at the least. In fact it might be better to have Mad Dog at State than defense. The man appears to be well-read at least.

We are into the craziest days we have seen since the Day-care sex-abuse hysteria of the 80's. Remember the McMartin case?

Yeah, what in the hell is up with that? There is some kind of psychological thing going on with people when they see a singular incident of something in the news and immediately assume it's going on everywhere. "I heard they are molesting kids in daycare! (Somewhere, in another state 600 miles away.) That's it I'm going to get my kid out of day care because it's run by perverts!"..............

And they wonder why we think they're stupid.

The sociologists have, in their sociologist way, half a handle on it. These things are called "moral panics." See wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_panic

The real problem is that ignorant people do not realize they are ignorant.

The biggest problem is that a certain political movement has erected a firewall against educating the ignorant;

A). "They think you're stupid.". "They" being the left. How can you reach someone who has been conditioned to believe that every time you attempt to share information with them, you're just being condescending?

B). "I've done very well with the undereducated.". Anti-intellectualism and the ridicule/demonization of "academia". Did you notice that it became a badge of honor to be ignorant when all of this was going on? Why would you want a college education when you think that all it does is brainwash you with "evil" liberal ideology? Notice, however, that the right wing leadership are all highly educated. As Orwell wrote; "Ignorance is Strength".

C). "The liberal media always lies.". Of course this leaves only Conservative media as an outlet of truth. Fox, EIB, Clear Channel, NewsMax, One America........ There is a host of them and it's growing. Nothing new to see here. "Lugenpresse", Google it up. My enemy always lies, therefore only I am the oracle of truth.

If you start talking and they think you're a "Liberal".....it doesn't matter what you say from that point on. They were never listening in the first place.

Firewall.

I could go on about how they've tied it to religion, machismo, patriotism.......... But, you guys already know all of this.

I hear that Hillary was so out of control when she realized she was going to lose the election that her staff had to call in a Veterinarian from the Bronx Zoo to shoot her with a Tranq dart. :)

It didn’t take long after the arrest of a gun-wielding man at a District pizza restaurant on Sunday for the usual conspiracy theory that swirls around such an incident to percolate on social media and in the nether corners of the Internet.

The gunman, claimed the baying hounds of paranoia, was part of a “false-flag” operation — that is, he was an actor in an elaborate plot designed to discredit those who have for weeks spread a bizarre story about the restaurant being the locus of a child-molestation ring run by Hillary Clinton.

donquixote99 12-05-2016 08:12 PM

The phrase 'false-flag operation' is a precise and reliable diagnostic indicator. If you hear it, you are dealing with a bona fide conspiracy nut. No other people ever use that phrase, and they always do!

And the connection to Trump supporter websites, Alex Jones (whose reputation Trump calls "amazing"), and to Michael Flynn (Trump’s national security adviser) are pretty feckin' bizarre. Trump may start tweeting about this tonight at 3am.

When my great nephew told me he saw Alex Jones drawing a crowd outside the RNC in Cleveland, he said; "Uncle Dave, this guy is a fuckin' whack-nut. Is this what the Republicans have become?"..............

LMAO!!!!!!

The bigger problem IMO is that most of the mainstream media has been giving us fake news for years in order to manipulate the public into believing the horse shit that the government and their Corporate Overlord owners want us the believe.

It's idiotic beliefs/attitudes like this being sold by the Limbaughs of the world that have largely caused people to believe fake news. You now sound like Sarah Palin.

The media parrots the politicians who must make up wedge issues to win elections.

It's the idiotic beliefs like "Saddam has Weapons of Mass Destruction", "Lehman Brothers is too big to fail", "Tax Cuts create jobs", "Social Security is going bankrupt", "Universal Health Care is a pixie dust dream", and "a 1250 square foot 3/2 starter home is worth $335,000", that were sold to us by the establishments propaganda machine that are the source of our problems.

Yes, but you are behind in your thinking, if you think that this sort of 'establishment memes in establishment media' is where it's at now. The Internet is changing everything, and much for the worse, so far.

So, you and Joad believe that the fact that real estate is very expensive in some market somehow justifies a fake news story about Hillary running a child sex ring out of a pizza shop? These beliefs could lead to an offer for you to serve on Trump's national security staff.

You might think that, but to me TJ's starter housing cost reference is about American Dream real estate industry propaganda not how supply and demand affects housing prices.

Trump fires Flynn's son for his connection to the Comet Ping Pong fake news hoax. Daddy Flynn should go to. He's just as nutty as his son. Then again, Trump retweets fake news with the best of them.

Interestingly, the guy told a couple of buddies of his plans. Trump has railed frequently against Muslims who don't report suspected terrorists in their midst. I suppose he'll be coming out tomorrow against these Christians bubbas not doing the same.

Speaking of fake news...

...who knew there was so much money in it?

A Republican legislative aide in Maryland who was behind a fake news site that accused Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton of election-rigging was fired Wednesday.
Del. David E. Vogt III (R-Frederick) said he terminated Cameron Harris “on the spot” after learning that he was the mastermind behind Christian TimesNewspaper.com and its fabricated Sept. 30 article, which reported that there were tens of thousands of “fraudulent Clinton votes found” in an Ohio warehouse."...
..."Harris told the Times that he created fake news to earn money. After investing $5 for the domain name, he earned about $22,000 in online advertising revenue.
In an interview with the Times, Harris expressed guilt for spreading lies but also a sense of pride in doing it so well." WaPo
