A Trump Impeachment?

Allan Lichtmann, the American University professor whose model predicted a Trump win, is now predicting a Trump impeachment.

At the end of our September conversation, Lichtman made another call: that if elected, Trump would eventually be impeached by a Republican Congress that would prefer a President Mike Pence — someone whom establishment Republicans know and trust.

“I'm going to make another prediction,” he said. “This one is not based on a system; it's just my gut. They don't want Trump as president, because they can't control him. He's unpredictable. They'd love to have Pence — an absolutely down-the-line, conservative, controllable Republican. And I'm quite certain Trump will give someone grounds for impeachment, either by doing something that endangers national security or because it helps his pocketbook.”

My vote goes to a pocketbook enhancement impeachment.

Won't happen until after the 2018 midterms, when the voters do a collective forehead smack and elect a Democratic House and Senate.

barbara 11-11-2016 04:01 PM

There is no doubt in my mind that Trump will do something he can be impeached for.

But a Pence presidency is a scary thought, too.

The Democrats would never set a bad precedent like that. You wouldn't want it used wrongly against your own party. The Republicans are not going to do this against Trump unless there is no other choice. It would have to be unmitigated high treason on Trump's part.

I'm going to be praying to the God that I don't believe in that Trump stays healthy.

A Pence Presidency would be much worse than Trump IMO.

Didn't you vote for Pence?

Denier 11-11-2016 05:15 PM

He won't be impeached. Conservatives will benefit. Leftists will be destroyed.

Oerets 11-11-2016 05:30 PM

He will be safe, long as the GOP is in control of at least one of, the House Senate or Supreme Court.

You need to remember nothing sticks to the Donald

Hell, it wouldnt surprise me if the Repubs were complicit in the impeachment process against Trump if it ever happened.

If you read the article, it doesn't say that they would be complicit. It said that it would be they that did it (as it would have to be with their House majority). Hell, Democrats may stand in the way just to make you guys live with the Frankenstein's monster you created (and thereby get crushed in 4 years).

The LGBTQ hating RW evangelistas would love a President Pence.

Praying for a successful and speedy impeachment proceeding...

Is Pence as scary as Trump? I do not think so. This planet, this beautiful blue marble survived a couple of super assholes like Bush jr., Reagan et al and could most likely also survive Pence, but Trump???

Trump is the dog that caught the car, Pence is the psycho that knows how to work it.

It would have to be something that would be acceptable to people like McCain, Graham, Flake, etc along with the majority of House members. Something like extreme incompetence with regard to Europe or outright collaboration with Putin against Merkel and NATO could cause real trouble. This is why no one in establishment foreign affairs or at the Pentagon wants him around.

icenine 11-13-2016 01:33 PM

Hillary is about 2 million votes over Trump. Trump does not have a mandate.
And his pledge to deport 3 million people that will be revealed tonight on 60 minutes shows idiocy in the wake of these protests. This morning on NBC Conway was using terms like "mandate" and "Trump World", "Clinton World" showing that those close to Trump are not realizing millions of Americans think they are not legitimate. Trump needs to flush Bannon down the toilet and make some sort of gesture before it's too late for him to be seen like everyone's President.

I also think the predator tag will be hard to dismiss as time goes on.

This guy ain't Nixon. Nixon was smart, ran California, was a self-made man who made it out of Whittier by his own bootstraps. I know you older guys might cringe but I would kill for Nixon right now.

That was from his failed campaign in 1962 against Pat Brown for the governorship of California. Too bad he wasn't a man of his word. He added a huge number of names to that black granite wall in DC, after running on an anti-war platform.

Well not that part I guess.
But LBJ also was responsible.

I'm not absolving LBJ's part in Kennedy's and Ike's war. ;)

"I pledge to you that we shall have an honorable end to the war in Vietnam."

Not exactly anti-war.

I remember on the sixth day of basic training one of our drill instructors said the following to us new recruits.

"Today is day six of your four year enlistment. That means you have 1,455 days to go. Do you know how long 1,455 days is? It's FOREVER!"

Trump will not be impeached.

You are stuck with him FOREVER.

Pio1980 11-16-2016 09:36 AM

Trump seems somewhat astonished with the complexity of the responsibilities he's "won". If astonishment becomes being overwhelmed, then what?

Well, Putin and Assad want to party with Trump. :D
It is becoming apparent just because a CEO is a CEO does not mean one can govern. Unless you are part of the worst Supreme Court in our history, of course.
