The Clinton Trump Debates...

I'm not pining for these debates. I suppose that they will become a fiasco. They will be far away from any streitkultur (contending culture?) and even worse: Hillary will start a sentence and after some five words the Drumpf will interrupt her. And this will happen all the time.

This is what I'm afraid of too.

Hillary should carry an air horn, for use if Trump misbehaves too badly.

Bear spray?
Thorazine darts?

Things that physically touch, no. He'd likely pull a gun and shoot.

But noisemakers might come in handy. Maybe have a big gong available to be wheeled out....

Pio1980 09-19-2016 09:42 AM

Then let's go with the freon boat horn bullshit alarm.

And how about a couple of bouncers onstage to enforce no talking out of turn rule?
My prediction is that Trump will be Trump, he will mock Hillary while making a mockery of the debates, networks will take it in the chin for the ratings bonanza. A few one liners will be tomorrows headlines.

Tom Joad 09-19-2016 10:07 AM

Hillary's last, and only hope is if Trump self destructs.

Trump doesn't have to win the debate.

Ever since Hillary shot herself in the foot with her "deplorables" rant and followed it up by having the vapors on 9/11, her campaign has been on life support.

All Trump has to do is come off looking halfway Presidential.

That will pull the plug for her.

Do Presidential Debates Really Matter?
Remember all the famous moments in past debates that changed the outcome of those elections? Well, they didn’t. http://washingtonmonthly.com/magazin...really-matter/

Not on substance but they do matter. Trump will entertain us at the debate through sheer audacity and bombast. Hillary will at best bore us. Trump is a circus. Hillary is a funeral procession (but not in New Orleans).

donquixote99 09-19-2016 10:21 AM

It's fun to think of 'showy' ways to upstage Trump. I can see great possibilities for girls in glitter costumes with signs, and a squad of Keystone cops.

But as for what can actually be done, dignitas requires a more sedate approach. Maybe a little pantomime, a good-humored introduction of the Jane Goodall/Bonzo meme if he gets into name-calling, and I still see a role for the air horn if a big gun is called for.

Anything but standing there and letting him control the show. Even walking off is better than that, as long as it is assured that the feed will be cut if one does so.

Pio1980 09-19-2016 11:02 AM

Trump appeals to folks that go to Jr sports games to watch the kids fight.
A manchild that thinks like a spoiled 8 year old appealing to other non-grownups emotionally frozen at grade school.
Posted twice because it bears repeating.

Hillary is not the type to walk off a debate stage. She has debated Obama and Sanders. The key to defeating Trump is what Rand Paul did during one of the primary debates where he actually began a fact-filled discussion of TTP and Trump was totally lost on the details. She needs to trip him up with Putin's annexation of Crimea and civil war in Ukraine.

As for the birther issue I would just ask what gives Trump the right to declare who is a citizen or not.

At this point Bernie's popularity is politically meaningless. As fodder for pot stirring ...

I'm pissed at Bernie.

I gave a total of $500 bucks to his campaign and then he goes and jumps on board for the Hildebitch.

I got a mind to demand my money back.

How Trump Could Win the Debate

I really don't like this preppy little Rich Lowry dweeb, but I do agree with him on this:

http://www.politico.com/magazine/sto...-debate-214272

Quote:

Trump has a significant built-in advantage in that there is a lower standard for him — not because the media isn’t tough enough on him, as all the media mavens agree, but because he is the de facto challenger and candidate of change in a change election. Trump can win by clearing a bar of acceptability, whereas Clinton has to do more than that and either significantly wound Trump or make a compellingly positive case for herself that has so far eluded her in both 2008 and 2016.

Rajoo 09-22-2016 10:33 AM

Another interesting article on the topic.

Like everything else, the debates are all about Trump

Actually most experts in human nature will tell you that that is the best way to tell who came out the winner. The body language and facial expressions will reveal the truth.

The post debate spin is bullshit.

Rajoo 09-22-2016 06:02 PM

It's quite interesting that some people here were bragging about how Hillary is going to be making mincemeat out of Trump, they could not wait for the debates, Hillary will leave Trump in the dust, on and on .................or so it went.

Now here we are, best for Hillary would be to get a doctor's note and skip the debates entirely. Her best performance will be ridiculed by Trump and it will be a challenge to break even. Hillary should take the stance that "if Trump does not release all his personal taxes, I will not debate him". Why make herself the sacrificial lamb?

This is true.

Both Gore and Kerry beat Bush in their debates if you count being more knowledgeable as a win. But what wins political debates is charisma, not knowledge.

Gore had zero charisma.

Kerry had zero charisma.

And Hillary has zero charisma.

She is going to lose.

Pio1980 09-22-2016 07:49 PM

Optics matter, facts do not. Perfect for the emperor jackass of Trump tower.
What a shithole of a country this is becoming.

Bullshit.

She's going to rope-a-dope his bluster, he'll punch himself out in twenty minutes, then she'll start busting him up.

It will be painful to watch even for Democrats, like Tex Cobb being pummeled by Larry Holmes.

It won't even be sport.

First Clinton-Trump presidential debate: What time, where to watch

http://www.nola.com/politics/index.s...016_presi.html

Quote:

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE DEBATE?

Clinton, a Democrat, and Trump, a Republican, will face each other at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. The debate is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Central Time.

WHICH TV CHANNELS WILL CARRY IT?

The debate will broadcast live on every network and cable news network: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, C-SPAN, PBS, and MSNBC. New Orleans NBC affiliate WDSU, however, will be carrying the Saints-Falcons game.

HOW CAN I WATCH ONLINE?

Facebook will cooperate with ABC, and Twitter will partner with Bloomberg Media, to live-stream the debate.

HarmanKardon 09-24-2016 12:52 PM

I think that these debates demand an excellent moderator! I hope that he or she will be qualified to do this extremely difficult (and important) job.

Lester Holt is far better than the dreadful Matt Lauer who hosted the equally dreadful "Commander In Chief Forum". Unlike Lauer, Holt is actually a journalist and not a dropout from a "Media Arts" program.

The trouble is that they both work for the same network, NBC, which in turn is owned by Comcast, a privately held (not publicly traded) media conglomerate owned and run by a right wing family. If it turns out that the treatment that Hillary received at the hands of Lauer was ordered from on high, then it's likely that Holt has been given a similar mission for next week's debate.
