Morelly Corrupt
Last year they widened the road along my south property line.
I hated it. Took away sound and sight barrier trees/underbrush that had protected my house. Today I got a little bit back. The disturbed ground yielded 29 morel mushrooms, and hopefully more to come. |
Wow. I've never found more than one of those at once.
29 should be enough to give you control of the whole state. You can be Mushroom King! (If more do come up, would it make sense to leave some standing, to spread spores?) |
Congrats! Great find! I've never found one here. Probably the soil of the Black Forest does not provide an appropriate morel habitat.

Don't recall ever seeing any here. Not on my property anyways. I hear they are super-delicious, however. Maybe if I pray to the Mushroom God?

Thought about eating these. Bet they would have been delicious.

I don't know mushrooms well enough to know which ones are edible and which ones are not.

http://cdn.wideopenspaces.com/wp-con...l-Mushroom.jpg Hey, what am I saying? That thing in the picture is VERY POISONOUS. Leave them be, and if they are within a hundred miles or so of Dayton, call me and I'll dispose of them safely! :) :) :) |

Don't ever confuse them with Gyromitra, this dangerous mushroom appears in Spring...

Indeed...false morels (although the one pictured looks like a good morel...). I had false morels around too. You can tell them apart; the genuine morel is hollow, the false morels are solid inside and tend to be sorta slimy. |
My riff about 'poisonous morels' was intended as humor--had not heard of 'false morels.'
So I've learned something. :) http://www.mushroom-appreciation.com...hhp2PoXThj.jpg |
We have found the false morel in the past, growing within feet of the real thing.
BTW, we had butter sautéed shrooms with moose steaks last night, and with scrambled cheese eggs this morning. Delicious! We're going out hunting again now... |
