What he deserves isn't the point. We've stopped talking about Bergdahl and we're talking about him again. Is that the situation we deserve?

There is something wrong with the lad, of course. A normal person wouldn't throw anger and insult, eg, 'your a lier who hates America' just because someone posts a version of facts that contradicts something else. We are all at sea in claims of fact, it would be rational to help each other sort through them, test what is true and false, make sense of it all.

Throwing anger and insult in this situation is either pathological, or paid for.

Good to see that we are in agreement on most things Don Q. Verdad!

Has anyone here ever heard of a "Whisper Campaign"? It's another favorite of Karl Rove, wherein rumors are casually started in several locations, media, political rallies, etc., at once and repeated until they become something "everyone knows". It's a more subtle twist on the "big lie". He made his name playing out this tactic in Texas back in the 1970s. He successfully employed this tactic against John McCain in the Republican Primaries with the "black love child" campaign.

Think; "Some people say......"

All of the sudden every soldier that has ever served in Afghanistan knows all about Bowe Bergdahl, and he is the biggest rat since Benedict Arnold.............

Right.

Veterans, you know the military rumor mill and what a pain in the ass it can be. Are you buying all of this?

Dave

Yes.... Have heard of whisper campaign. Very effective.

And the one against Bergdahl is in full swing. People are swinging 180 degrees from positions the held before his release. Example McCain was in favor before Obama did it, I guess much of this works because of short attention spans. Well sorry Karl baby because I have a memory like an elephant. Florence just looks at me and shakes her head when I happen to mention something we did back when we were getting our lives together started. To me it is like yesterday.

Me too, and I'm not bragging. Sometimes I'm jealous of the gnat-brains. Everything is always brand new to them. Must be wonderful.

One of my fondest memories from election night 2012 was when I turned on Fox as Gretchen relayed the news that Ohio had went with Obama. Karl Rove was beside himself objecting to the news. He insisted that she double check her facts so with a cameraman in tow she marched down into the bowels of the Faux Noise machine for confirmation. Gretchen came back up to Karl (Goebbels) Rove and nailed his hide to the barn door with the question, "Is this the math that Republicans use to make themselves better?"

Gretchen served up a magnificent shit sandwich to the chief slanderer of the Republican machine. Truly a stunning 'hell hath no fury' moment. :)

The nedia is chasing this like a greyhound after the mwchanical rabbit meanwhie;

Delaware has closed a major bridge because the support pillars are leaniing.

Maryland has close th I70 bridge over the Pnobsct because a steel beem needs work.

The infrastructure is falling down around our ears but does the media care?

So that wasn't one of the shovel ready jobs that the stimulus was supposed to fix?

No because they only just found these problems. There wer very few shovel ready jobs because there was not even enough money available to spend on assessing needed repairs. Believe it or not mintenance actually costs money. We were far to busy throwing it away in two silly wars and giving tax breaks to people who did not need or deserve them.

They ran out of shovels after fixing Detroit. :D

All that stimulus money Obama pushed to his supporters would have been nice used properly.

Maybe the VA that he wanted to fix Nope

Soory chum but there were a hell of a lot of smiling GOP governors posing with the big checks for the press photos. Like I told you I have a long memory.;)

Yes, Sir, there sure was. And, he also seems to (conveniently) forget whose signature the first stimulus bill bears, Rob.

Selective memory being what it is and all......................

For the record John McCain (a former POW) couldn't be a bigger douchebag if he tried in this matter.

Yes, I did. Damn it. Sadly it appears that 'Grumpy' McCain has lost all semblance of honor and any integrity at all, purely due to a sad case of Obama Derangement Syndrome. It is sickening that the 'pubbies apparently would rather see Bowe Bergdahl star in beheading video instead of returning home after five years as a POW.

All what stimulus money? This country didn't authorize or spend half the amount stimulus money that would have actually righted the ship.

Until someone proves otherwise, we will have to take him at his word. No?

As long as it isn't rock salt from a 12 gauge pump, my friend. ;)

His platoon mates words are just that, words, at this point. Last I checked a court martial is conducted by senior officers, if it comes to that.

On a better note, SOS Kerry said those five Taliban can certainly be killed if they rejoin the war in Afghanistan after their year long stay at Club Doha.

Right, that's what I was thinking. Sorry, Bob.

What I get from the article is that what they're saying is this;

'Bergdahl says he was tortured and beaten. But, the guy appears to be mentally disturbed, so we really don't know whether to believe him or not. We'll let you know what further examination reveals.'

No. We determine if he's mentally messed up first, then gauge the validity of his "word" from there.

Plus it is hard to get fired if you are active duty, and you will never find the sense of camaraderie you do in the military. With the offbase housing allowance (tax free) an E-6 in Southern California makes about almost 5k a month.

Oh you may have to work over 40 hours (duty, deployments, etc) a week. But you will never get screwed out of your mortgage money by some bullshit flexing rules imposed by corporate in the name of saving money.

On average, how many E5 do you suppose advance to E6 these days?

I do not know. In many cases it depends on the need for that persons Naval Enlisted Classification (Job). Those in an overmanned skill that is not as necessary as another skill face a more difficult time making E-6. Conversely those in a skill deemed necessary may have an easier time making it. Especially if there is shortage in that rating.

but it is possible.....most of my contemporaries have made e-6 and e-7

in short if a computer cannot do the job the better chance you may be able to stay in the military for 20 years but there are many other variables.
Many of the paperwork and admin jobs (i.e. payroll, what would be considered human resource jobs, etc) have been eliminated.

I for one believe the kid. His desertion will be dealt with by the brass but that kind of behavior is nothing new in wartime, people snap and wander off for all sorts of reasons. All I can say is that he's lucky that the crazies didn't saw his head off for a gruesome recruitment video.

BlueStreak 06-08-2014 11:44 PM

I don't know whether to believe him or not.

If a man walked up to me and said he'd been gang raped by drunken space aliens, I'd tend to think he was nuts........

But I'd keep my eye on the sky for a while. Cuz Ya never really know, now do ya?

In the old days the only way to even be considered for E-6 was to re-up for another 4 years. And then suck some ass.

Reckon when we start to figure into our considerations of these sorts of incidents that the only wars this country was involved in that can be legitimized in any way began in 1941, 1861 and 1775.

What if we had talks with the drunken space aliens to get him back, he was finally dropped off by a saucer, and we had a big body of experience with the drunken space aliens pulling nasty shit?
