For that matter, some of the greatest advances in modern medicine (e.g., medical imaging, advanced diagnostics, pharmaceuticals) have been done in Germany, a country with socialized medicine.

Never mind that they're no proof that copying - for example - Germany's health care system (a country you seem enamored with) would have any merit. Health care coverage (as in universal coverage) doesn't mean that it would be delivered in a cost effective manner in the US.
