What's bigger?

The new Supreme Court Justice story, or all the testing that's going on in N. Korea? Seems like I see more of the former in the news, but the latter seems abundently more important to me. What say you guys?

news programs, particularly those available in my area, are very trite. it seems that news programming has turned away from values like informing the public, and towards values like entertaining the public. controversy sells. the powers that be have decided to show what they think the people want to see. so we got hours of coverage about how the politicians are sqabbling amongst themselves, and minutes of coverage about what's going on in the world.

That's why we watch the BBC news in the evening because the local stations are just that - local

Hmmm, that reminds me of the first "Desert Storm" bombing runs. I was listening to Europe news on a big old Zenith upright tube console. It was very interesting to here the "less biased" reporting. I may have to try that again.

It may be that the public has turned away from news that does not entertain.

That might explain a lot about the media these days.

My point was that the news is just another "show" which makes money on advertising. To earn the most dollars they need to draw the largest audience. The largest audience is drawn to none hard news coverage.
It is our fault that we do not have the intellectual curiosity to support hard news.
IMHO of course,

How many Americans can tell you where Korea is and how many can tell you who is winning on American Idol or a sports team's stats?

I wanna see Britney's Drawers-Or lack of same....Or what was Michelle-Ma-Belle wearing when she & Barry did Noo Yawk last night ? While taking yr wife out on the town is a nice thing to do, anyone else think that it could have been postponed for a bit until His Holiness actually solves the country's more pressing problems ? I mean, you've got Kim Yuck Foo & his oversized Estes Rocket, the largest industrial company in the whole country is about to go down the tubes, & Barry spends God-knows-how much to squire his wife around the Big Yapple...If Bush had done this, every newspaper in the country would have been howling-Rightly-for his head. But since a black liberal Democrat does it, well, by gosh, by golly & by gum, its just peachy-keen. Oh, and Michelle...Try smiling, at least, when you & JazzBo are out blowing OUR money...
