I think the worst thing that could possibly happen to Republicans is to have the economy start showing signs of recovery before they regain anymore seats. And that that's why any signs to that effect are met with "downplay" and disbelief.
My brother tells me the GM plant back home is adding a third shift. And that one of the local mills has restarted after an eighteen month layoff putting 1,000 people back to work in N.E. Ohio, and has also announced "modernization plans". But, I'm certain none of this means anything.

You need to distinguish between the civil servants and the politicians. Much stricter - and enforceable - ethics restrictions apply to those doing a job for the government than the politicians who do a job on the government. I think ambition and ego are a significantly smaller factor for those who take care of the nuts and bolts of government.

Regards,

D-Ray

But did he tell you about the tens of thousand who lost their jobs and have no hope of ever re-entering their fields in Michigan.

Its nice to hear about adding a shift or hiring of 1500 here and there. But it ain't happening often.

I hadn't thought about it that way. You make a good point. Clearly you've investigated this issue in some detail. Thank you for your insight into this issue. This is by far the most informative post in this thread.

A one man list. Somehow, that gave me a little chuckle.
