Law enforcement assumed that BLM would be violent and prepared for that in terms of gear, numbers, and deployment. Whereas, it was assumed that the Trump protestors would be peaceful, which resulted in events playing out very differently.

There is some reason to think there was a plot to assassinate Pence, since he wasn't 'coming through.' He could then be replaced with an even more reliable person. One of the offspring, perhaps.

I think that's a real stretch, since the Senate would have to confirm a new VP and might well take Pence's assassination amiss. On the other hand, who knows what logic festers in Trump's head?
