Semi auto shoots one bullet per trigger pull.

Here is an explanation Brabara that I found helpful. Though from what I understand, it is fairly easy (though illegal) to convert a semi-automatic to full automatic.

Correct, and instantly ready for the next shot until the magazine is emptied, as fast as the trigger can be pulled one shot at a time. It's a difference with little distinction in practice.

School shootings on the rise

Thanks everyone.

I was thinking one pull of the trigger meant many bullets.
I think it is that word automatic that makes me think that.

Do magazines come loaded or one has to manually load them?

They come empty, the purchaser loads them.

So it does requires preparation, which is what I was wondering about.
Though I assume for the armed forces, the magazines are pre-loaded. I actually saw this in a movie (and which is why I asked).

Oh, Cadet Bone Spur is so brave. What a repulsive asshole.
Fat Donny can't walk two blocks without a golf cart and he thinks he's going to wade into a firefight? Oh, please.

Governor Inslee of Washington state gave Il Dotard what for at that meeting and the 'Deadbeat' president sat there with his arms crossed and pouted.

not-automatic: you at least have to manually work the mechanism to load a new round after one shot, and cock the hammer so it will fire when the trigger is pulled.

semi-automatic: after a shot, a new round is chambered and the hammer is cocked automatically. All you have to do to fire again is pull the trigger again.

automatic: chambering, cocking, and firing all happen automatically and repeatedly as long as the trigger is held down.

machine-gun: an automatic weapon.
