They are a hoot to drive, just drive it in a manner where you can avoid the $8000 clutch job.

This wold be my preferred version of a Mini Cooper.

Of couse it wouldn't be quite as sporty, but it would be heck of a lot of fun to drive.

And no, this is not mine, I have just been eyeballing it a bit

Oh, I do approve of station wagons. I sort of think I heard that those were't VW's finest moment, however....

But anything besides a sedan, if it's to be one's only car. If you're going to have a vehicle, it should have some ability to carry cargo....

Or buy a 2000 Chev Impala - the rear seats fold down. I brought home an HP 36" plotter, its stand, the roll paper attachment and a dozen rolls of paper in mine. And the trunk lid was shut tight. Even with rear seats up the trunk is huge.

My beautiful candy apple red 1970 Meteor (Ford) hardtop rusted out so badly I feared having to slam on the brakes for fear the drive-train would stop but not the body.

I have the 2004 Impala, fairly basic with cruise control.
I'd want another like it, but with assist handles.
The later fancier models have too much "stuff" to go wrong.

I had a 1971 baby blue version of it with AT, great vehicle for camping, could haul a lot of grear with a luggage rack, and surprisingly quiet for a rear engine VW. But not known for power nor handling, more like a grandpa car from my youth. Since I did all of the work, was quite inexpensive to maintain and I owned it for several years.
