Anchorage Alaska. Im a liberal conservative. Liberal because when i find a good stereo at too good a price to leave alone i buy it. Conservative because i cant seem to get rid of any of them.

More of a conservative i guess. I work for what my kids and i have. And i have expectations that every one who is able bodied should do the same.

Sounds like a conservative Democrat! (Ducks and runs for cover.)

So where do you stand on tubes versus solid state?

i would love to try tubes. But havent been able to get into it on cheap.

Ive wondered about that."Am i a conservative democrat?" But i dont really like all the social programs out there. Not so sure im a republican either. So that leaves non partisan. Conservative leaning.

[QUOTE=budgetaudio6;102781]i would love to try tubes. But havent been able to get into it on cheap.QUOTE]

The way I stumbled into tubes was an old Magnavox console my brother in law drag over to my place. It has a push pull stereo (12AX7 to 6V6 outputs.)
It is a fairly common unit that Magnavox produced in huge numbers. Arguably best of these mid fi console amps is the 175 model which is super easy to upgrade to a stand alone power amp.
I've since upgraded to a set of monoblock Magnavox's which are biamped from
1957.

Keep an eye out for one of the 'Maggotbox' consoles and you'll have a tube amp that sings for little coin and not too much work.
