Clinton had the Monica albatross manufactured and hung around his neck by Moonpie and company. Gore probably thought he was a liability. Now that time a has shown what that was all about, (politics of the worst sort), he's viewed as an asset. Go figure (dryly)

No probably about it! Gore definitely didn't want "The Big Dog" around. He wanted to be as far removed from Clinton's personal "scandals" as possible. Add to that the fact that Joe Lieberman, Gore's running mate, had roundly condemned Clinton for his moral lapses. In fact, I've always felt that was a big part of Gore's reason for choosing "Joementum". I can't really explain it in other terms.
