Today's LIVE Playlist

Sandy Denny
Lincoln Folk Festival
Tuphome Manor Park
London, England
24 July 1971

Personnel:

Sandy Denny (vocals)
Richard Thompson (guitars, backing vocals)
Dave Pegg (bass)
Gerry Conway (drums)

Pretty darned good SQ audience capture, especially for the times & @ an outdoor venue (wind @ the mic, etc.).

Yep. It's rather striking that the Richard Thompson of age 22 sounds strikingly similar to the contemporary Richard Thompson. He dialed in the "signature sound" so early in his career. And as for Sandy: the voice of an angel, silenced at such an early age. <sigh>

(as much as it pains me)

John Prine
Stardust Theater
Norwegian Pearl Cruise Line
20 January 2015

It's incredible that a taper was present and bagged a fine audience capture. Excellent SQ & balance. It helped that (based on ambient/background noise level) that the audience numbered b/w 25-40 souls. Taper probably didn'e even require a "protective posse" in order to snatch a clean capture. But John Prine (reduced to) playing aboard a northern cruise liner? The humanity. Excellent setlist, nonetheless. One of the most heart-wrenching Prine renditions of "Hello In There" I've heard, and I've heard a lot of Prine renditions of that number.

Mystic, you must excuse me, I'm not a regular follower, and don't really know what you're up to. Are the sessions you list available somewhere? Youtube?

Oh ye of little faith. I always check back,, but since (as you wrote) "AK is back up" it is unlikely I'll be returning to "PC" (ha, the irony) and the "Audiokarma Temp" board.

In response to your question, the "live" performances I posted @ PC (ie, Sandy Denny & Shelagh McDonald, both concerts @ 1971) are (analogue to digital) conversions of ROIO (recordings of independent origin) capturd by a member of the listening audience, most like on cassette tape (ie, the audio "master"), and subsequently dubbed & traded among the ROIO taper/trader community, a network of "live" music connoisseurs that's been active since the late 1960s. Where the process once involved type (or hadwritten) lists and the mailing to & fro of cassette tapes, it now involves a bitorrent client (Deluge, Vuze, etc.) and a membership @ such ROIO trading sites as ZOMB, The Trader's Den, or Hunger City if that tracker is still active.

Are you a member @ "regular" AK? If not, become a member (and better still, a subscriber), then shoot me a PM and I'll provide more technical info & links @ which you can join in these activities.

Mystic, signing off (for good) @ "Audiokarma Temp"

Thanks, Mystic.

I happen to own someone's trove of years of Dead concerts on tape, that I rescued from a Goodwill bin. Artfully handlettered title and songlists; pretty rough SQ. I look on them as folk-art objects.
