Welcome! This place is kind of like the wild west in tales you've heard. Trust no one and keep your powder dry.

Mitt Romney gave $100 million to his sons tax-free. I'm just glad he kept it out of the hands of Obama's big government. What a hero!

You wrote that and wonder why your family thinks you're a confrontational dumb ass? Get a clue.

I recall a time that you could debate politics without thinking that your political opponent was a jackass. I have severely damaged relations with family members over what I believed to be civil but very opinionated posts. In hindsight, I would place the discussion of politics with family members right up there next to incest. Your views would be most appreciated. I can't afford counseling so I thought I would seek free advice here.....lol.

What anger? Maybe your friends and family are angry but I'm not.

I will tell you what conservative habits I find extremely annoying, however. And maybe that will help answer your question.

1). The assumption that anyone who supports old age benefits such as SS and Medicare and "safety nets" like food stamps and unemployment is just "....a bum sniffing around for a handout". I'm not a "bum". I work, I always have and as long as I am physically able, I always will. I just happen to think that our elderly deserve better than to just get cut off when they retire. I also believe that people are not always at fault when they lose their jobs and I believe our workers deserve better than to just be left to starve when it happens. And, I don't mind helping to pay for these things and don't understand why anyone would be so callous as to NOT support them.

2). That just because I have different views regarding the military means I "....hate the troops." This is the worst of it all! I have served in the military myself. So have most of my family members and friends. As a matter of fact I have ancestors who fought in nearly every conflict going back to the revolutionary war and both sides of the Civil War.
I was tought that the greatest thing we could ever do for our "troops" is to NOT waste their lives frivolously. To only send them into harms way when we are left with no other choice and pull them out as soon as our involvement is no longer prudent or necessary........Yes, even if there is no "victory" to claim.

3). The implication that I "....don't love America." That one does make me angry. Nothing could be further from the truth and it might even get your ass kicked. It's nothing but an emotional tool used to villify ones ideological opponent. A cheap, underhanded trick.

Regards,
Dave

Well....... the obnoxious comment was the one our new friend was responding to. His response was admittedly supportive of that comment but not offensive in and of itself.

I say, let's give him a chance to establish himself here without any baggage from other venues.

And then we'll get 'im!
