The extreme views that left Romney the only non-kook candidate left to nominate for the GOP from the clown car primary candidate collection was indeed the tea party's doing. Romney had to shape shift to get their support.
Then if this was not it what was?

You think Santorum would have made it?

No. But consider that Obama was a novice, and had a fantastically liberal record. It did not stop him from being elected. Everyone shape shifts from the primary to the general election.

In the end, nobody really liked Romney, and he lost. I think largely because of that.

Perhaps, but he's the best chance the GOP had in this election. Would he have done better with anyone else in the primary (other than maybe Huntsmann).

I heard it said last night that this is the last national election that the GOP will be competitive in with their current base. I can't imagine how anyone with knowledge of American demographics would find this statement to be untrue.

Was that David Brooks? I think I heard him say as much on PBS' coverage.

And I agree. They really are finished. They're even becoming marginalized in parts of the South and "Methane Belt" (that's 'cuz of the cows)

You hear this kind of thing every time the opposing party loses.

We still received 48% of the popular vote.

We will have to peel some folks off though.

You don't really hear it from Republicans though. The party must reform or die. That's all there is to it.

The party took a strong step to the right and it didn't work. I think a moderate Romney might have taken a number of states that were not happy with Obama and the current economic situation, but to scared of the Tea Baggers.

The republicans should have done to Obama what they did to Jimmy Carter.

Republicans lost. Period.

You don't need to peel some folks off. What you need to do is stop lying to them. Stop pandering.

You can't be for balancing the budget, lowering taxes, and increasing military spending all at the same time. It's impossible and voters know it.

And if you want more womens votes then get out of their pants. My sister is one of the most hard-core capitalist executives one could ever imagine. But she won't vote Republican because they won't GTF out of her pants.

The GOP needs to learn a simple lesson. They aren't God.
