Movies that demonstrate our political platforms.
I haven't seen sicko or Obama's America yet, but I likely will. I was mentioning it to my wife and she said she had a better idea for political movies - likely to be just as accurate.
For the republicans we have Abe Lincoln - vampier slayer
And for the democrats we have
wait
wait
wait
Ted
She had me laughing pretty well. Just thought I would share.

You're going to hate Sicko. I'm an unabashed admirer of Moore's work and Sicko had to be gagged down in doses of 20-30 minutes at one time in my wifes and my case. Think castor oil and bitters. The denial of albuterol and inhaled steroids for the lung damaged first responders was a terrible thing to hear about. That Moore took them to Havana, Cuba for free medical treatment was viewed with distaste by some but it pointed up the seriously flawed way we approach healthcare here in the best country on the planet. Yes, I've been overseas and looked around and think America still is the best one to live in. So what if I'm biased? The solidarity & sympathy shown by a Havana firehouse crew towards those first responders was touching and apolitical in my eyes. EMTs & firemen and firewomen in Cuba didn't see Americans, they saw fellow heroes. Call me naive and maudlin but that was my take on the Cuba segment.

That's good, Jiminy. I like your wife's sense of humor. It sounds like she keeps you grounded.

"Sicko".....naw. "Roger and Me" and "Capitalism: A Love Story" are his best political efforts, IMO.
I like "Canadian Bacon" as a (more or less) regular comedy.
I might watch "Obamas America", if I get a chance to see that rightwing fearmongering drivel for free. No way am I giving those freaks my money.

I like "Being There" (big surprise). It illustrates well the vapid nature of our politics and political discourse. As for agenda driven pseudo-documentaries, be they from Al Gore, Michael Moore, or the vast Right Wing conspiracy, I have no interest in them whatsoever.

Given your liking for Being There, did you ever read anything by Jerzy Kosinski? I read The Painted Bird and Steps. I thought Bird was astonishing but I can't remember a thing about Steps.

I haven't. I gotta put it on my list. Another excellent movie on a political theme was The Tin Drum (Blechtrommel), based on the Gunther Grass novel. Most excellent.
