Trump is mentally unstable and he will never get Mexico to pay for his wall.
Wonder if the GOP has answers to these.

Of course Mexico won't pay for the wall. Taxpayers will be forced to foot the bill, and the funds will come from social programs like social security and medicare.

It's called cutting off your nose to spite your face.

From this morning on NY Post which is safe territory for the Dumpster.

“With Mexico being one of the highest crime Nations in the world, we must have THE WALL. Mexico will pay for it through reimbursement/other,” Trump tweeted.
So the idea is for Congress to fund the wall first and then Trump the ultimate deal maker is going to hold Mexico hostage on NAFTA. Good luck with that.

Looks like talking up the wall and bashing GOP legislators, mainly the senators is all that's left on the Trump playbook.

Hopefully there won't be near as many GOP senators to bash after 2018.

I want to be optimistic, but the math is really stacked against the Dems. They have to defend 25 seats while the Pubs only have to defend 9. That means that they have to win more than three quarters of the senate races to just pick up one seat. Winning two thirds would mean a loss of 3 seats. The Dems would have to win 28 out of the 34 seats to overcome the VP's tiebreaker.

I am optimistic enough to believe that the backlash against Trump is enough to overcome the gerrymandering and retake the House.

That is certainly optimistic.

I tend to agree with you but the uncertainty is the status of Trump a year from now. Resignation, impeachment or still in office. If he is still in office then the House can flip but not the Senate.

If he is still in office, but the investigation has shown clear wrongdoing, enough to plunge him below 30%, but the GOP Senators have been unable to grow a pair, that could flip the senate. It would have to be a perfect storm. The odds are good that the GOP leaders will remain eunuchs, but the other things are not as clear.
