Vonnegut probably would have written a novel where the primary holder of RAMJAC Corporation becomes President. In Jailbird RAMJAC is multinational megacorp that owns 19% of America. RAMJAC is probably the copyright holder to "Fate Worse Than Death."

Just finished The Brothers Karamazov. There was a nihilist movement in 19th Century Russia and Dostoevsky always deals with this theme. I think we are in a nihilistic period right now in the United States.

A corrective mode...not nihilist.

It is an attempt to seek balance especially re immigration, trade deals and American overseas burden.

Books are great. I just reflected on an electrical engineering term that touches on this political topic.

The term is "relaxation oscillator".

It is reminiscent of when electronics were warm and smelled.

I'm on Book 2 of Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. Fun reading.

Gotta read that again some day.

I dug up an old Jack Vance paperback, The Star Kings, and am most of the way through it.

A History of Western Philosophy -- Bertrand Russell, 14th printing, 1960

For .50c I could not pass up fourteen levels of refinement.

This should almost be in the "Latest Finds" thread. I found a leather bound collection of 6 Isaac Asimov books in one volume: Foundation, Foundation and Empire, The Second Foundation, The Stars, Like Dust, The Naked Sun and I, Robot. Just over five bucks. Today I will start The Second Foundation, having just finished Foundation and Empire. At five below zero, it is good reading weather.

Are those by the Easton Press? That collection is worth several hundred dollars on Ebay.
Earlier this year I found some Easton Press editions at Saver's...Dune was one of them.
I found three signed copies of some lesser known science fiction novels also. A complete set of classical literature by Easton can go for a few thousand bucks on Ebay if its in nice condition.

There is an Ian Fleming Easton Press that is valuable also.

To me Asimov is like watching an old Star Trek rerun. He never fails to entertain. Plus his narratives are often times just two people discussing past or future events.
