Thanks, Pat. That is interesting.

As the world becomes more thoroughly connected, I don't see how it would be possible to avoid political ideas from being exchanged along with everything else. As international travel and the internet continues to grow and people see that life elsewhere isn't so intolerable, ideas from other nations will make their way into our national dialog.

I don't see how anyone touting "exceptionalism", or deriding ideas as "European" or "un-American", as it relates to political/economic issues is going to stop that.

Sooner, or later the wall will breach.

His wife is Conservative pundit Mary Matlin. She might still be holding that aspirin between her knees.

Having believed that I would be quizzed quite strongly on the Constitution during the naturalization process I studied it quite a lot. Read the Federalist Papers a few times and most of all Madison's Notes on the Debates. Benjamin Franklin's speech - well he wrote it out and had James Wilson read it as he was getting on in years - seems to have come to pass. He thought the Constitution was the best they could do, not perfect but certainly workable "and would only end in despotism when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government."

Madison and Jefferson both wanted to restrict the powers of corporations but did not get their words into the Bill of Rights. I think we can all see quite clearly that corporations have corrupted our government, both with legalizing bribery (lobbyists) and deciding quite astonishingly, that corporations are people. The biggest single danger to America at the moment is the Chamber of Commerce.

Some have accused me of not liking this country, not true. I will admit that the greatest reason for my coming here was the love of a good woman, but I did not take out citizenship to watch a good country commit suicide any more than I would watch a friend take his/her own life without intervention.

Excellent!

There is nothing "American" about corporatist fascism. Quite the contrary.
