Picked up a DVD of Puccini's La Boheme with Mirella Freni singing the role of Mimi. Chap playing Rodolfo voice OK acting OK I guess. Performance was at La Scala with von Karajan conducting.

Not a spectacular Hollywood blockbuster movie but it's probably better off for it, being such a disgusting slice of our history. Well acted imo. As soon as I saw Pitt I figured he'd be the good guy. 7/10

Finally threw an eye at 12 Years a Slave. Thought it an excellent film and appreciated that the Hollywood fluff and softening of the subject matter was largely missing. No "Chicken George" dancing around, grinning and slap happy.

The director, Steve McQueen, is a black man from Great Britain. That probably makes him immune to a lot of the Hollywood gloss and romanticization of subject that Hollywood is prone to.
