The Ten Freeway In L.A. Shut Down After Fire

The major east/west artery in the LA Basin has 100 concrete columns and 400 feet of elevated roadway that were cooked in a pallet fire.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but who thought storing wooden pallets under a section of the elevated freeway was a bright idea?

This is like that recent fire under the I95 in Philly on steroids.

Shit.

Could the choice in storage there be a attempt at eliminating a homeless population from using the space?

Nah, it's just a low quality storage location being used for low-value items.

Kindling? All that "free wood", what we lumber salvagers call it, up in smoke.

Back in the late 80's I built a playhouse for our daughter using reclaimed wood from pallets and discarded lumber. Lots of fun because it involved design as you go and scavenging wood was quite a challenge.

I built a platform for rain barrels and a grill table for my barbecue out of scrounged pallets. Pretty much start with four corner posts and go from there.
