I would like to remind you American friends again that you, apart from the Civil War, NEVER had a war in your own country, so that assholes in the supposed far distance from the Ukraine like McCain feel their pale asses in everlasting total security.
We fear that the Ukraine crisis could spread like a wildfire - this is what Hollande and Merkel primarily have in mind. Are McCain et al. totally sure that such a wildfire would stop on the borders of the big pond?
Today is the 70th anniversary of the bombings of Dresden, a city back then totally owercrowded with refugees, 25000 people lost their lives in that night. We know and feel what a war is like in our country, and the French people got that experience as well.

Don't forget the War of 1812.
What components of the Ukraine crisis threatens these shores like a wildfire?
And the French thank the Germans for bringing war to France.

Hindsight proposes that there was a time that international pressure on Hitler would have ended the military threat from the 3rd Reich "defending the rights of German speaking people being oppressed". I dunno if this is historically credible, or if there is such an opportunity presently with Putin's somewhat similar excuse to "defend the rights of Russian speaking folk" in neighboring States.

I would like to make a few notes
In Georgia. it was a matter of ethnicity rather than Russian speakers.
The Ossetians, speak Ossetic an Iranian language. Abkhasians are Circassians and both Ossetians and Abkhasians wanted no connections
with the Georgians. They sought the protection of Russia and Russia obliged
especially since NATO was romancing Georgia.
In especially Eastern Ukraine there is a real threat to Russian speakers by
an official armed group which has a flag and insignia similar to the Nazis.

Nope!

Troops of the Azov Battalion use the Social-National Assembly (SNA) logo, an inverted Wolfsangel, a widely used symbol in Nazi Germany, on their banner, and some members are open white supremacists or anti-Semites.[17] A BBC report summarizes the evidence that the battalion is neo-Nazi:
Run by the extremist Patriot of Ukraine organisation, which considers Jews and other minorities "sub-human" and calls for a white, Christian crusade against them, [the battalion] sports three Nazi symbols on its insignia: a modified Wolf's Hook, a black sun (or "Hakensonne") and the title Black Corps, which was used by the Waffen SS.

The far right neo-Nazis have been a reality in Ukraine for a long time. They didn't just spring, like Athena, from Putin's forehead. They trace their routes back to the Ukrainian SS units in WW2 and to Stepan Bandera. And the Azov Battalion isn't the only one. There's also Right Sector, another neo-Nazi volunteer force comprised of the street thugs from the Maidan.
Also, if they were provocateurs working for the Kremlin, how is it that they've all been armed, equipped and supported by the coup government in Kyiv?

Kiev has withdrawn from the strategic town of Debaltseve.
The long run strategy of Kiev might be to let Russia carry the burden of the eastern held areas and with the help of the EU and USA try to improve the
rest of Ukraine.
