This picture is not mine. I have the 1962 successor which is slightliy different in styling. Fantastic sound as well Dondillon!

By the way - Freudenstadt is a little town in the Black Forest, I was born in that town.
The Telefunken was by first introduction to Hi Fidelity. There was another
German radio with similar credentials. If my memory served me right I think it
was Blaupunkt.

Radios which sounded like McIntosh tube amps.
Geez memories, now I regret selling my McIntosh tube amp.

Grundig was another well know brand.

Bier came first, 1516 (at least the beer which contains nothing else than water, yeast, hop and malt > "Reinheitsgebot").

Bayer's Aspirin came in 1899.

It makes sense to take some Aspirin when you intend to drink more than about 3 litres beer. You might feel better next morning.

Back to the topic.

Here you see my late Marantz 1300DC with brand new woodcase then (2008). The amp was pretty heavy, more than 70 lbs. Unfortunately it was badly designed - the bottom was closed which caused a lack of heat circulation. So it started to burn and became a "Totalschaden" ("write-off" finnbow?)

"Write-off" is only correct in a tax context. Otherwise, I'd say it was simply a "total loss."

Thanks finnbow.

All in all (serviced plus walnut woodcase) I payed 1600 euros for the amp and I sold the wreck for 500 euros. Well - at least emotionally it was a "total loss".

Ouch indeed, at least my Yamaha CR-3020 is well vented, if anything happened to it I would cry, especially finding one with the Macassar Ebony case in such good condition
