Perhaps Mother Earth is insuring her own survival even if she must do so by destroying life forms that are trying to destroy her. Hence some of the violent weather.

"Gaia hypothesis"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis

""The Gaia hypothesis, also known as Gaia theory or Gaia principle, proposes that organisms interact with their inorganic surroundings on Earth to form a self-regulating, complex system that contributes to maintaining the conditions for life on the planet. Topics of interest include how the biosphere and the evolution of life forms affect the stability of global temperature, ocean salinity, oxygen in the atmosphere and other environmental variables that affect the habitability of Earth.""

I think it's too late to ever think in terms of things getting back to the way they were. We've blown that chance but I think the creeping despair and resignation I detect in some of us is as mistaken as was our previous ambivalence and denial. There are things... must be things we can do to mitigate the effects of climate change or possibly even halt the change. Despair, just like denial, seriously interferes with that sort of effort. Giving into despair is perhaps a worse sin than out former denial.

Watch the "Life after people" series.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_After_People

It will give you hope.

Mother nature will heal herself surprisingly fast once we're out of the way.

Here's a link to the first one. You can easily find the rest on the net.

Does still doubt somebody out there who is more intelligent than a snail that Global Warming is a fact? (Okay - SUV drivers excluded.)

I really like the "Life After People" series. Planet Earth has cancer. But there is hope. The carcinom called "human being" has to be removed completely and everything would heal fast and nicely.

Once upon a time there was a prophet called Al. He delivered a lot of sermons crossing the whole country an even almost the entire world. He preached about Climate Change and Global Waming with enthusiasm. But he is forgotten now. Economic and political lobbyism nailed him on a cross and that was the end of his prophecy.

So I pinned my hopes on Obama. I do not know If he failed for the same reasons as Gore or if he is just a weak loser. However I did notice very very few efforts (concering this most serious threat for the human race) since he is president.

Millions upon millions of Americans think climate change is a left wing plot, Chris. Maybe some on this board do. These are people who have been indoctrinated to believe that anything that might cause them inconvenience, like paying more taxes to improve the general welfare, is a left wing plot.

Well at 400 feet above sea level we may end up with some nice waterfront property simply because the naysayers are the ones in power.

That's putting it nicely.
