Turkey Downs Russian Fighter Jet

According to reports, Turkey and NATO warned Russia repeatedly beginning Nov. 6 to stop flying into Turkish airspace and to cease targeting Turkman villages close to the border.

Radar indicates the Russian fighter was in Turkish airspace and it is reported the pilot was requested to leave 3 times but refused.

Lots of countries with lots of weapons and different agendas in a very small space. Like putting one mouse and 10 cats in a cardboard box - what could possibly go wrong?

Since the Russians are the only party to the conflict who are in Syria at the request of the government, it behooves the US and Turkey to figure out how to prevent any repeat of this incident.

And the reason for that is oil. We really need to kick.

The mouse representing the oil, I suppose.

The oil rationale is incorrect.

We currently import more oil from Canada than all of OPEC combined and we are importing less as domestic production continues to increase.

We never imported but a minuscule amount from Iraq and still get next to nothing from there.

The occupied oil resources are still a cash cow for the radicals.

Yes they are. That tap will slowly close as political pressure on some buyer nations takes effect and the Russians/Assad eventually retake seized wells.

It's not incorrect at all.

First, the situation you describe is a snapshot of the present state of the oil market. Second, it's a snapshot of the present state of the US market. The world market is quite different and, in any event, the overwhelming majority of proven reserves of readily accessible petroleum are still in the Middle East.

The international response to the situation in the Middle East is motivated completely by concerns over access to the region's oil reserves. If this were not so, we would be equally involved combating terrorists in Kenya, Nigeria and the Magreb.

It isn't necessarily in Russia's interest to normalize the supply of oil from the Middle East. They have lots of their own oil to sell.
