I expressed disagreement about political issues on a political board. In your view, was I nasty and mean in how I did it? Was I unnecessarily rough? Do I owe him an apology?

The fact of the matter is ed couldn't deal with challenges to his political opinions and tried to cow his opponents through a combination of bullying and insults. When he failed to achieve his objective, he absented himself from the forum.

No it doesn't and I took a writing course in college and another later in life for three CPE's that support this - there are no hard and fast rules in English grammar.
