The fact is a huge percentage of the population either can't, or won't save enough for retirement. That's why we need Social Security, and defined benefit plans like was the norm a generation ago.

What kills me is the outrageous retirement benefits many public workers now receive.

When I was a kid being a school teacher was at the bottom of the totem poll, the folks forced to take these jobs are now, well rich.

I know I am supposed to be a liberal but old folks can't afford to live in the house they were born in and teachers are pulling in 6 figures after working what is essentially a part time job.

I would tend to agree that some of the PERS plans are a little ridiculous, but many of them are getting cut back to more reasonable levels now that the local governments are figuring out they are broke. As for wages, I don't think they are getting rich, they are just where the rest of the folk should be if it weren't for big corporate greed.

Sounds like -5 is back. You do know that there are enough words in the English language to make an intelligible retort. If you are wise enough to put a decent sentence together, a serious retort can have more impact than a silly, troll-like reply that can be laughed at. Tom perceives me as an unrepentant Bagger redneck Texan in sheep's clothing. He outed me early on and can't resist jumping on his own dog pile. I'm enjoying his and my exchanges related to this perception. I think he is too.

Edit: In the larger scheme of things this tempest is irrelevant and trivial. Your post prompted me to read your recent thread and I am unable to adequately express the feelings your family's loss generates in me. My brother died all too young and this loss devastated my parents. I am very sorry for your loss.
