I will quote the last paragraph which I think is the best:

Yet messianic Republican suicide threats in the face of an imagined debt crisis have not subsided at all. The swelling grievance within the party base may actually be giving the threats more fervor. If you use the 'debt clock time machine' and set it to 2017 you find that our gross debt to gdp increases to 133% from its' current 106%, total debt goes from the current 17ish tril to 22.5.

It will not matter if a default throws the country into a recession next year.
that is the whole point of the article. The Tea Party does not even want to pay the electric bill....

I was not referring to the TP. To me they are a delusional group with no vision, rather destroy the nation to attain their ideals but the mainstream GOP is using TP either for cover or for fear of getting "primaried" by blocking various spending bills.
