A challenge...

to all, regardless of what side of the fence you reside on.

We have recently seen a call for civility in political discourse. I'm not sure what that means exactly but I propose a challenge to all.

Even though these forum pages are not populated by politicians or professional pundits, I really don't see why if it is taken seriously that we can't do the same. From what I have read, it appears that many here do take it seriously. Seriously enough that they would take the time to point fingers and comment.

For me, anyone who outwardly engages in a ridiculous amount of name calling and whatnot pretty much loses my ear and respect for their opinions no matter if they (opinions) are valid or not. If the intention is to get others to listen to your opinions and give time to your views, I can't imagine the name calling and nasty insults really helps anyones cause.

The challenge to everyone is to make your viewpoint and opinions known without the use of name calling for one week.

Com'on, it's only one week. One week...

Good sentiment but I am not good with kumbaya moments.

I'll be cognitive of this request but I can't promise anything.

Frankly I am still waiting for an apology from the right for the call to arms rhetoric. Until then I can't see a true "civility" tone taking hold.

It really wasn't intended as kumbaya at all. Just curious to see if people could make their case without all the BS for a week

It's all rhetoric, noonereal. It's a shame more can't see that.

I never said anything about civility toward members.

Well played Finn!

You mean we're supposed to avoid insults of politicians?

That sounds logical. I mean if the senator from my state of origin, the reddest of the red states, can sit with the senator from New York, I can try to make my critique of them logical.

On the other hand, one might consider the descriptions congressman, politician and lawyer to be epithets.

Regards,

D-Ray

I agree Don, the word lawyer is often used as an epithet, and I for one shall refrain from using it for that very reason.

In the future, I shall refer to your colleges and yourself as "powdered wigs".

After all, I received an hour of sensitivity training during my tenure at the joint.

Shows, don't it!!!
