Current GOP Unmoored To American History

Good essay.

If you accept the notion that Reagan may have ushered in the closing of the great American middle class all the GOP presidencies since Ike have been bad for the USA.
Nixon, Bush II. I guess G.H.W. Bush can be an exception.

It struck me that a some of the younger GOP candidates were kids when Reagan was in office and thus may not know his true significance.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I took a philosophy class at Kent State once the professor loved Kierkegaard. We read Sickness Unto Death. The teacher was a mild man who sat on his desk smoking a pipe throughout his lecture... I cannot remember his name but I have never forgotten him.

A good essay indeed. The only decent Republican President since Ike was Bush the Elder. All of the others, in the words of The Donald, have been loooooosahs.

Another thing they don't seem to understand is that the more "elite" a group gets, the smaller its numbers must necessarily get. They GOP has somehow been able to keep a base due to smoke and mirror propaganda, but their numbers are dwindling and that is going to hit them hard politically at some point in the near future. Just hope I get to stick around long enough to see how it plays out.

True. They only know the legend, the stories that their parents who were 18-25 years old and drunk half the time in the 1980s, tell them. As we've all seen, the longer St. Ronnie lies in his grave, the more pristine and God-like he gets.
