He actually implied that it was worse where Bush was concerned. I'm not prepared to echo Noone here but I can certainly understand why he said it.

I've heard and read about some of the nutcases that wish Obama harm. Still, its not as wide - spread as what developed under George W. Maybe its fermented under Bush just because he was around for 8 years, and Obama's not been around that long? Don't know.

Yes, that statement is inaccurate, and indicative of political bias. I think I'll have to acknowledge, though, that the exchange is getting pretty harsh here. Granted, nothing on the level of other boards - but up to AK/PC standards?

(One of my favorite lines from college came from one of my Greek friends. He and I did not approve of the values espoused by the fraternity and sorority system. In his words, "The only good Greek is a real Greek" .)

If the Mexican government is not running effectively, it means that the people in office are not doing a good job of running it. It's a given that Mexicans will be running the Mexican government, but it is not because they are Mexican that there are problems with the government.

Do you agree that there is a difference?

P.S., I think I just let a joke fly over my head. Forgive my sophistry.

It's an old saw, that Greeks run good restaurants

And I get to tell my little story again. I was selling RE for a while, I got a call from 2 muslims from India that wanted a restaurant in Cleveland.

Set up a time for them to see- a Greek restaurant. We go in, exchange pleasantries, of course the owner sits us down and gives us a free lunch.

The musselmen go 'You Greeks run great restaurants!' The owner thanked them for the compliment and returned it - 'You guys run great gas stations!' and they thanked him (they owned two). Me as a young suburban, my jaw was hanging open.

It was a life lesson. Now I rag on hillbillies, blacks, lawyers, hispanics, scots, pollacks, irish, yuppies, yippies, guppies and metrosexuals (white people are generally the easiest, generally so uptight)(bet no one calls me racist for saying that!)(did I leave anyone out?). My big problem with PC is folks don't say what they think any more, out of fear. I'd rather hear the truth.

I do understand 'the problem with () is that it's run by ()', but it's still funny, in my addled mind at least.

You sir, are a gentleman. The only way I can add sophistry to you is the word 'sophós'. As you can see I've been in sales a long time

Racism is a very ugly word.

"You Mexicans run great countries."

Suppose instead they had said, "The only thing wrong with Greek restaurants is that Greeks run them."? I'm sure everyone would had a great laugh.

I didn't state a conclusion. It just seems to me that the "instances" of really off the wall, hate filled behavior have not been as numerous.....yet. I'm perfectly willing to acknowledge that they are out there. However, particularly leading up to and during Iraq war, the amount of venom spewed at Bush seems nearly incessant.

However, I totally get that some see the "Obama Hate" occurrences as a rising and disturbing trend.

I tend to look at this as an unfortunate by-product of living in a society where public dissent is not officially discouraged, and some folks take this dissent way too far. It my viewpoint, and I don't think I'm "biased" about it.

Come on, man, own it for pity's sake. You made an allegation that "Still, its not as wide - spread as what developed under George W." The only thing you expressed any uncertainty about was causation.

Bush's general "doorknobness" made him easy meat for satirists as well as the general public. Throw Cheney & Rove into the mix and you have a dangerous combination...one that sucked us into a multi-trillion dollar war & needlessly cost thousands of lives. I am convinced that the virulent hatred for Obama is a thinly-veiled excuse for racism.

As far as Obama trying to turn the US into a socialist state...jeez...we've been socialist for a LONG time...a more precise definition would be "corporatist". Mega-corps & Wall Street call the shots around here.
